Government Alert

Here in BC, Canada, I get something like that very rarely. I think they've all been tests so far, no action required.

I don't find it annoying. Reassuring that someone will let me know if there's a forest fire nearby.

I have weather, county and Amber alerts turned on on my phone, they do not annoy me at all, they are there to help me.

The US has emergency notification systems for phones, television, and radio, and we also have public warning systems in the form of a loud siren. Most of the sirens are located in areas that get a lot of catastrophic tornadoes or wildfires, and some are located on military bases and in cities where the state or local gov't feels there's a likelihood of a major terrorist or military attack. In the 1940s, all major train stations installed public sirens but some of those are gone now, or are no longer tested and maintained. Large dams have them as well, such as Hoover Dam and Folsom Dam, and federal prisons do, too.

I did what you shouldn't do ... my iPhone alerts have been silenced.
That is because some random amber alert about sent me flying out of my chair one afternoon! .. I'll take my chances.

And weather alerts are everywhere else anyway ... TV, radio. I'll catch anything there.

That happened to my best friend when she moved from our hometown of Los Angeles to a town outside Denver, CO about 30 years ago.

We do not get government alerts here in Ontario Canada but we do get Amber Alerts. Would you believe there are some people who complain about the Amber Alerts, kind of sad.

We also get the bad weather alerts.

That is a shame regarding Amber Alerts. Hard to fathom anyone being disturbed by such a (sometimes) tragic situation.

The message she didn't read probably said "If you want to continue receiving alerts, text OK."

If you don't, it says text "STOP."

I think the same thing. The OP's post made no sense to me. Didn't have the foggiest idea what it was talking about.

Get regular alerts on my phone, mostly the Amber alerts but sometimes weather warnings.

Still get hurricane evac notices from the Sheriff in Florida, always tempted to call them and say I am quite safely evacuated these days.

My dog pays little attention.

@Murrmurr , I actually had a good idea about what to do anyway, as it was quite prominent in our news.. I pressed the 'OK' button quickly as it was loud.. There wasn't a text 'STOP' message.. The other instruction (via news reports) was to just swipe the message off..

BTW, I'm a 'he' not a 'she', but how are you supposed to know that, by just a username, although I think it's sounds masculine.. My avatar pic could be deceiving though, as there is a woman in it, but I'm the male wolf and the girl represents my girlfriend..
