That is how I felt. In fact the more I watched the more skeletal it became but it is pretty amazing.

just to play the cynic ? - i can imagine a radio thingy inside the contraption that plays the music and the fingers are just moving in what seems to be the same rhythm - we are tricked in our minds into believing the mechanical fingers are playing a tune when in fact they are not?

Well of course it is all animation.
The creepy fingers are not really playing the music. They are just following the music programmed by these clever guys.
