Amelia, I too hope you feel like coming back soon; I've also enjoyed your posts. But I understand; what I've run up against in this site was Americans bashing Europeans; never something that's comfortable to be around. Hugs.

I see no need to give offense without provocation, and even then it's often best to just remain silent. And, sometimes when I don't that's when I delete, edit, or aplogize or regret. I’ve read the post you refer to three times now, and I still find nothing offensive by it. I also find no offensive intent. The question therefore is, for the sake of clarity, what exactly is offensive about it.

I get the impression none of us will find out what was supposed to be so offensive.

Well let me help out with my take on it. My reading of hearlady. "If someone well liked or well regarded like Gary O (NOT YOU!) left I'd notice, no offense, really.

I'm sorry, but if Amelia left without saying anything I wouldn't notice as much as say, Gary O leaving.

I did say Europe seems to be ahead of the U.S. on many things in a thread. But I am an American and my mother was from Europe.

And yet still, after all this time, no one has pointed out what the offensive words were, why they ‘perceived’ them to be offensive, and therefore not given the person the opportunity to clarify those words. Words that others might have just taken out of context. If we were all to carefully read every post in this thread, we might all be able to see how HL post was taken out of context.

We are not getting anywhere are we? And I can see that due to the way people make assumptions of the posts of others, we never will get anywhere. Sometimes it’s best to listen to the other person, and any additional clarity, instead of only listing to what we as individuals precise others as meaning. What is in the mind of the reader may not necessary have been in the mind of the writer, nor in reality in the words resented in text. Its your reception, not mine.

It’s an amazing concept for some to comprehend, at any age; seeking clarity that is, instead of making assumptions of other peoples words.

As I kid I was taught above all else you must be polite to others - I have failed this challenge from time to time but have found as now that it is often simple and proven effectiveness for social/public debate across the airways and on all occasions??
