Is moving a bird's nest illegal?

I had absolutely no idea bird's nests were legally protected. But I wonder about the health issue. Bird feces is well known to spread numerous pathogens. Birds crapping on your car parked on the street is one thing, but when it's running down your front door, and you have a baby, is another. If I thought a bird's nest was a real, legitimate threat to my health, sorry, even as an animal lover, I'd take the fine for moving the nest.

At my old house, I once had a catbird that built a nest in a hanging basket of flowers. I don't remember it being particularly messy. Then again, starlings used to nest in a hole in the soffit above my bedroom window - they were messy and NOISY.

illegal - NO as long as it's not aneagle??
Here in Calif, there's a certain crane that's endangered, and also some type of dove (I think) and storks. It's illegal to disturb their established nests. Californians are supposed to call a wildlife ranger if any type of protected bird nests on their property.

When I lived in a small town in north-central Cal, a huge stork nested on a neighbor's roof and he called a wildlife ranger. He was told to call back after the stork laid its eggs, which he did, and then some rangers came and collected the eggs and removed the nest. Meanwhile, everyone watched her build her nest, and took photos and stuff. Me and my kids had breakfast on our front porch every morning so we could watch her. It was pretty awesome.

I don't think the rangers took the stork. I think she just moved on after they took her eggs and nest.

If that's an issue, call your local wildlife people. Wildlife rangers will relocate birds who crap all over your stuff. You're just not supposed to do it yourself.

That said, they're not going to know if you did unless someone reports you.

It is not a nest until complete!! I never let iy finish..It is a mess!!
