How much of the news coverage of the Russian/Ukranian War do you believe?

My question is not about the war, nor its politics; but about the news coverage. If you follow the US news coverage, the blundering Russian army can't get fight its way out its cots in the morning. But those crafty Ukrainians are thwarting every Russian advance. Yet, Ukranian territory is in Russian hands, and Ukran. cities have been bombed, with loss of life, and factory output.
How much of the news coverage of the Russian/Ukranian War do you believe?

frankly i take "news" coverage on most things with serious doubt and think it is as reliable as water cooler talk anymore......
been very disgusted by "media" and wonder if it was always this bad and i did not notice or when will it reach a point when facts are facts not twisted for a purpose.

I never know quite was to believe..our news is full of Western propaganda...
 

I don't know what news channels you watch but I see news about it every single day. I do a few minutes of Good Morning America and watch the more synopsized version on World News Tonight. I'm so sick of hearing about that war that I usually fast forward through that part.
 
I can't know what is really happening. I'm not sure what to believe. I did see a segment, probably on CNN. There was a lot of shooting. It appeared terrible.
 
I live among Ukrainians & Russians. A Russian friend told me of roving gangs of Ukrainian young men harrassing old Russians. She is a believable source.

I try to get extra insight from these folks.

I know I didn't answer OP. I do know I support the country, Ukraine, that was invaded.
 
I don't watch news. I read the New York Times, which in spite of a liberal bias, does a good job on sticking with actual facts and gives a more complete coverage of events than most news outlets. I tend to believe what I read there although I'm more guarded about anything on an opinion page, no matter what paper prints them. The NYT gives no clear information about who is actually winning the war. All I know is that Ukraine gets a lot of war machinery from the west. There is some bickering among western nations over how much they should give Ukraine, but from what I can tell, support from the west is massive, and keeps getting more massive.

The support from European nations seems much more than Europe usually gives to NATO, but many of those nations have first hand experience of what it's like for a country under the thumb of Russia. They clearly want to keep Russian contained in it's own borders.

When this thing first started, I thought Russia would be in and out in a month, and I think they would have been if it were not for western support. Is all of it worth our effort? I won't know until the war is over.

I follow a guy on another forum who gives several reports every day, and honestly admits he is biased against Russia, but his information paints a picture of Russia getting its ass kicked. I think he's pretty good at separating his bias from his reports and he frequently adds a note of caution when something is from a Ukrainian source. Reports from Russia are worth a critical read, but I don't take them seriously.

I feel the same, it is beyond sad the devastation that Putin has caused, I watch the news with the bombed out Ukraine and wonder how they can ever recover never mind the deaths and heartache of the people and all the money that its costing the countries that are sending necessary help that could otherwise be spent at home....and yes I believe my news source.
I hope someone somehow puts an end to Putin.
 
Ha! My brother used to subscribe to RT TV (Russian TV) because he liked to get both sides of the view on current politics. As soon as the war started RT was taken off the air.

Now I think there is just a lot of propaganda as there was in World Wars I and II. Yes, we are told how nice and "goody-goody 2 shoes" the Ukrainians are and how "goody-goody 2 shoes we are for helping them.
At the same time we are told how evil Putin and the Russians are. We have been told Putin is sick and dying but a year later, the guy is still around.

There are a lot of people in power that would love to see another world war. You know, there is always a lot of money to be made from wars. Human lives don't really count. Oh, the media shows us sad photos of dead or dying people but the money making machinery just goes on.

Me, I never read about the war. Seeing the headlines is enough for me. We have enough problems right here where I live.
 
I stopped watching main stream media news quite some time ago because I felt there was too much bias and no one to ask tough questions. I'd give perhaps a bit more credibility to some guy in the area streaming the news on his phone and we can make of it what we will.

According to an assessment found in the leaks, seemingly collated by the US Defence Intelligence Agency, Russia has suffered 189,500 to 223,000 total casualties, including 35,500 to 43,000 killed in action and 154,000 to 180,000 wounded.

Ukraine has suffered 124,500 to 131,000 total casualties, including 15,500 to 17,500 killed in action and 109,000 to 113,500 wounded in action, according to the document titled, “Russia/Ukraine – Assessed Combat Sustainability and Attrition”.

The figures are approximately 10 times larger than any public casualty figure published by either Moscow or Kyiv.

And Civilians: In total, 18,280 casualties -- 6,596 killed and 11,684 injured -- occurred in territory controlled by Ukraine's government that was under attack by Russian forces. Another 4,454 casualties -- 1,894 killed and 2,560 injured -- occurred in Ukrainian territory occupied by Russia.

And on and on it goes, the world has gone mad, will We/Them ever learn??

Also on PBS weekdays at 6 PM, when they air the BBC America News. I always believe what I hear on that news show also. I will always since I have a lot of British ancestors.
 
The two most powerful weapons in war are deception and surprise. So, I am skeptical of what both sides say. It is not uncommon for the parties invovled in the war to plant misinformation in the news media. Combine that with the low quality of most of today's news media, and it's hard to know much for certain.
