I'm from Santa Cruz so beach to me says cool, but that beach house is tropical so probably hot. I wonder if it would cool off at night.

Take the beach house on a CA beach. Our beaches are much cooler than inland temperatures.

Lived in a farmhouse when I was younger. Mountain cabin might be okay for a get away for a few days. I'd have to go for either the beach or lake house.

The lake house, we were going to buy a riverside house a good few years ago, we were gazumped, that's a Brit expression for someone putting in a higher offer before legal proceedings have been finalised. It was an expensive experience.

The houses themselves are nice-looking but I'm really more of a San Francisco or Seattle apartment kinda gal.

None. House would have to be fully solar and wind powered, geothermal heating and cooling. Absolutely no need for outside utilities. Also, would have to be built with roof and windows to withstand tornadic/hurricane conditions. No 'traditional' housing. Of course, I have none of that!

Nowhere near water for me. Mountain cabin in winter? Forget it. Farmhouse I guess. Hope it doesn't have termites or smell like cow poo.

Where is the penthouse? I appreciate City life isn't everyone's cup of char but, lots of seaside towns are incredibly busy in the summer and bleak in the winter; rural living, whether on a mountain or deep in the countryside could, I think, be very lonely and isolating. I love going away for holidays but, for me, can't beat the hustle and bustle of everyday life
