Stranger staying in my attic

The pounding on the door could be someone trying to scare you out of the house? It would have me a bit scared and I would have the bedroom door secured and some personal protection! (At least some pepper spray) You should get some sort of camera set up to monitor outside your bedroom door. And some extra kind of lock. Maybe a son, daughter, niece, nephew, or some friend could help you set this up.

So many of these ONE Time posters come along with a sad tale of some sort, then sit back and wait for reactions ... all the while laughing. .
well if they get their kicks out of asking a question where people are concerned for them... then they need as much help as anyone can give them.. because their clearly not in their right mind. I for one would rather run the risk of helping someone , than to ignore someone who might be in genuine need ...just in case it's a Hoax ! I think if this is a hoax it's very weak one..

why - you know something we don't?? - sometimes just talking and suggesting doesn't do it?
Well yeah! I do, actually. I know that if this story is true, a widow living alone isn't wise to hand out her location to strangers on a forum on the Internet that "live close-by." I mean, if you want to post your own home address, have at it, but protecting our private information is important to most folks here.

I ama anot suggesting it is posted all over the site just passed to identifiable and bonafide VIP's for goodness sakes!!
Something like that might be reserved for possible suicide or threats of harm terrorism.
I don't think we're there.

Could the OP be playing with us? She joined, posted once and was last seen 20 minutes after that.
Maybe, but I think @LauraB is real. Just feels that way. Hope she comes back.
any of this site members live close by for example and would be willing to help? - mods??
That would be very ill-advised.
I'd like to think we are all good safe people here, sure feels that way to me. But Kate makes a good point, we need to be careful.

If I knew I was going to be close to another member I might PM and ask if they wanted to meet for coffee or something. Maybe that's not a good idea either... but I might do it anyway.

I've done it a few times and the experiences were wonderful. Of course, we "knew" each other for years. What can happen with coffee in a public place? Probably nothing bad.

Call your brother and get him to go and search in that attic...first....!! you're genuinely scared of what you might be hearing, so get him to go up in the attic and check every corner... I think that if you were hearing someone pounding on your bedroom door.. there would be evidence of someone coming down from the attic and then climbing back up again. I have a feeling you might be having night terrors and have got yourself in a bit of a state, so get your brother or a neighbour to go up and give the attic a thorough check.
Thank you for replying; however I was wide awake and not imagining anything. My little dog sleeps on my bed and he heard it too. I do understand people not wanting to believe it is possible; however I am not in a bit of a state as you wrote. Thanks for your reply anyway :)

Hey @LauraB welcome! I see you are new.

I think it is very likely some kind of varmints, squirrels as @BC Flash says, or racoons as @Nathan says. I've had both, and bats, all can make the sounds you describe. A good pest control service could probably figure it out and fix it.

@hollydolly is also right, if for no other reason than to calm your fears I would get someone who could go up there and look for any evidence of human use. That seems less likely to me, but your peace of mind matters. And stranger things have happened.

Best of luck with it.

Thanks for replying. Unless squirrels, etc have the ability to change my television so that I've lost my firestick which is controlled by my town, the intruder(s) are of the two-legged variety!
