Faithful to your hairdresser

Eddy cuts my hair. He's been doing that for years. He does a good job, but he's more of a friend than a hairstylist. (They're all "stylists"now, there's no more barbers.)
there;s a lot of Barbers around these parts.. still where you can go in and get a good haircut for less than a tenner... but there's a Huge proliferation in the last few years of very fancy Turkish Barbers ( hair salons ).. all with male stylists, and almost all of them rarely got any customers..

"Almost cut my hair", but didn't. Last time I cut it was for my mothers funeral as she had requested it of me and my brothers. That was 16yrs ago. I trim my beard a minimal amount, and trim split ends a few times a year. Spend the savings on tequila, and good bourbon.

Barbers, in the US area vanishing bread. In a 15 mile radius of me, there is only one. When I moved here, my barbers were all old guys, who retired or passed away. They were replaced by both sex hair places. They aren't called beauty shops, nor barbers.

yes we have Unisex hair salons but not many tbh... a Ladies hair salon will cut a man's hair but it's very rare for a Barbers to cut a ladies hair..

I live next to a very small market town just 3 streets basically , and in town there are 11 Hair Salons... 5 of which are men's...

It is getting very difficult to find a Barber! Many are retiring and not a lot of newly trained barbers are replacing them.

Their is a big difference between a barber cut and 'hair stylist' cut. Not to mention the neck shave the area around the hair line, with a straight edge blade, that barbers provide...They also provide a hot towel over the face after the haircut, just to relax you before you leave...

I used to love getting a shave, haircut and my shoes shined every time I went to my barber.

Getting hard to find...

My wife is a cosmetologist. She retired a few years ago and still has a handful of people that come to our house because they don't want anyone else touching their hair. We even had one of those chair lifts* installed for a couple clients that have a hard time with stairs.

* The chair lift was a great decision, because I discovered I don't have to carry anything up and down anymore. LOL.

I stayed with my first hair stylist (as an adult) for over 25 years. I followed her from place to place until she decided to retire and I changed to another stylist in the same shop. She and her husband, also a stylist, owned the shop. She was so good and cut my hair perfectly. Then, after 4 years, she decided to retire and take care of grandbabies. So, I switched to her husband who decided to close the shop and lease a space in another location. He did this three or four times and finally opened a one person shop where I have been going on a monthly basis for several years. He does a fairly good job on cuts but I have to really watch him or he will get my hair too short but otherwise the location is close by and he has not raised the price he charges me since I am a long time customer. He also assures me he plans to work until he drops dead.

Good question. I went to a really nice lady in a low key salon. She was recommended by a co-worker. When we chatted, she never said anyting bad about anyone. She was very nice. Did nice work with reasonable pricing. And then she, her husband and parents, packed and got the bleep out of California. I went to a couple of others including another co-worker recommend and didn't like any of them.

Got tired of the walk in place. Now I go to the dollar store scissors salon in my bathroom. Luckily my hair has some wave, hides a multitude of mistakes.

Changed hairdressers about 10 years ago, still with her, I stick with Suzanne mostly
for our fun visits at my appointments, she is simply great ...and she knows how to cut
my thick curly wavy like hair..

I've had the same hairdresser for a little over 20yrs. I met her when I moved in w/my 2nd husband. She lived a couple of doors down.
She gives me a quick trim, no wash. Layers it and styles w/the blower, and I'm gone. $25

We have time for a quick chat, and we catch up on our health issues lol, and I text her when I'm ready again.

Yes, I am very loyal to my stylist. She is delightful, we have great chats and I'm always happy with my haircut. I have been going to her for at least 4 years, since my previous stylist left. During Covid, I visited the shop's Facebook page, she reached out to me and I went to her apartment for haircuts. (We both wore masks.)

I am equally loyal to the salon. I've been going there for at least 10 years. I'm also close with the receptionist. She is in her 50's and very well-traveled so we typically talk about places we've visited. When my previous stylist left, she called me to recommend Nikki because she is great with mens' haircuts. I haven't been disappointed.

I don't get a shampoo, just a haircut and they have charged me the same $27 for the entire time. I always leave a $10 tip for my stylist.

I suffered with an itch, on my head on my arms, anywhere I could reach. 17 years later our son starts with itching and rashes. He finally saw a dr who started him on prednisone, and I realized that my itches were gone for several months, in fact since off and on I have been taking prednisone for my breathing problems. When I had the itch problem I kept my hair very short, now I am letting it grow, for the first time in 30 years!
My barber of almost 20 years actually offered to come to our home since he knokws the oxygen keeps me home bound for the most part. I thought the offer was sweet, but I want to see what happens as my hair grows, it is naturally curly still.

I had the same barber for over 15 years, then he retired. A new young guy from Germany took over his shop. Great barber, and he actually listens to what the customers say about how they want their hair cut. He has now added two other barbers to his Toronto shop. One from Italy and a French Canadian from Montreal. All are fully trained and good at their trade. JimB.
