Sologamy... Is There a Purpose?

Okay, this is brand new term to me. Maybe I've been under a rock. But I'm asking this in all seriousness. I understand (and think it's fine) to want to commit to self-care, self-nurturing, etc. but why the ceremony? It is not valid in the eyes of the law and there are no tax breaks. It can not be used for marital status on forms and applications. It is not polygamy if there's a real marriage in the future.

It's not about "to each their own" or "whatever floats their tuna boat" that I'm asking... I'd like some real thoughts about why the ceremony. I can't come up with any benefits.

Sologamy? Huh? You and I must be living under the same rock.
Yea, and with BS like this I may stay under the "rock". What's it mean? That one chooses to remain single? Nothing wrong with that but now it requires a ceremony and name?

Has the term "single" become some sort of devious insult?

Whatever happened to the old statement, "You can call me anything, just don't call me late for lunch!"

I tell you the world is turning on its axis!
Still... marrying oneself is certainly better than marrying the chandelier, which one woman did the other day :ROFLMAO:
There once was a lady (no, it's not a limerick!) named Erika who married the Eiffel Tower because she was in love with it. Legally changed her name, too... Erika La Tour Eiffel. @Jamala

In this day and time nothing surprises me. The last few generations has allowed this kind of stuff to be the "in" thing and the powers that be jump on the band wagon to gain their support even if it makes no sense or adds anything to society. It is just plain sad!

Is there a tax advantage? Can you still file jointly? Or is filing jointly now mandatory? The usual advice if you want to get to the bottom of something is to follow the money.
I wondered about that... or other benefits married folks receive, but (at least according to the Brides article) since it's not recognized as legal, there are no tax breaks. @JustDave
