I am particularly interested in dreams which not only foretell the future but, perhaps contain some warning.

I cannot recall ever mentioning my experience to anyone as, people can react in a way which makes you regret sharing something which you have experienced and which has affected you deeply. Anyway, I hope this is the place to share it and am, of course, very interested to read what you make of it.

I had a decision to make which, looking back, wasn't the drama which at the time I thought it was but, I was young and everything seemed so serious and life changing then.

The dream started with my climbing some stairs, it was an old house and at the top was a landing and a door. I knocked at the door and realised it was open. Inside was a dark room, the curtains drawn but, there was an old high backed, armchair facing away from me and, I knew someone was sitting there. The dream went on for several nights and always followed on from the night before. During my visits to that room, I asked questions and the person answered but I never stepped any closer until the last night. I was standing at the door and I said I knew who it was I was talking to. I stepped forward and looked down at an older, sadder version of me. I asked what she would do if she could turn the clock back and she told me. I followed her advice and she was right.

The dream was so real, I wanted to remember it always so, every morning, I would write down what had happened in the dream the night before. I have always thought that the dream was actually my subconscious rather than my future self coming back to warn her young self.

I think the thing I have always wanted to ask other people is, have they ever had a dream like this and, if they have, what did they make of it.
 

Wow! I have prophetic dreams ALL THE TIME! Extremely detailed!
What I dream generally happens within two weeks to two months later
in real life.
So glad you are writing these down and analyzing them!
You can find out a lot about yourself and about others in your life.
So much can be revealed if you reflect on your dreams.
If I have a problem in my life, I dream about it and HAVE THE SOLUTION!
Dreams are connections with the spiritual, with no barriers.

Take a notebook with you to sleep, and a pen. Tell yourself you will remember your dream.
After the dream, awake and write it down. Don't expect to remember it in the morning.
You won't.
Analyze your dream in the waking state. Much will be revealed.
 
I find it fascinating that your dream "followed on from the night before", if that means what I think it does. When you say "warned"...was it about al dangerous situation or just good advice about how not to make the wrong decision for the one you "had to make"?

The first dream, I climbed the stairs and stood in the doorway of the room whereas, in the second dream, I was standing in the doorway and it just continued on.

Good question which I have struggled to answer but, on reflection, I think it was good advice which led me down a different path and, I believe, saved my life. Sounds dramatic, I know but, I truly believe that. :)

Whenever I had precognitive dreams, I always woke up with the urge to tell them to someone but I didn't always do that. A couple of examples of dreams I told:
I had a dream I had the urge to tell my mother about. I dreamed about people standing around a table filled with food, like we would have for Thanksgiving dinner. I could not see their faces, only saw them from their shoulders down. The women wore black dresses with white collars, the men had on black suits.

I had the feeling these people were not from my family. Let me explain that by my family, I meant not my blood relatives. My mother who raised me was actually my grand aunt by marriage.

I chose to tell my mother and was at work when I told her. She immediately said "That means death". Though not related by blood, having experienced the paranormal herself, she never made me feel that I was strange because of my gift. That afternoon, her niece who was originally from Baltimore, MD but moved to Jersey, went to my mother's apartment and told her that her oldest brother (who was in Baltimore), had died. I met my mom's youngest brother (the niece's father) and his family, but never met her oldest brother.

Accident: I dreamed about a small white truck with a square, boxy cab. The cab was not rectangular like many trucks on the road. I saw that truck get into an accident; a lady got injured and was on the ground. A few days after having the dream, I told my supervisor I was leaving early because I wanted to go the mall (I forgot why I wanted to get there early).

On the way back, I hit Rte 80 to come home, A guy passed by me going real fast and I thougnt "he's going to cause an accident" Sure enough, there was a white truck that looked like the one in my dream. They got into an accident. I couldn't stop right then because of the traffic flow, but when I got off the exit, I called 911. I have no idea if a woman was in either vehicle and got injured, but I saw a man driving the car. I'd actually forgotten about the dream. When I told my supervisor what happened, she reminded me that I had told her about the truck dream.

Wow,@OneEyedDiva! You do have the gift! I had goosebumps reading this. I also have dreams that are precognitive, but not often. My mom has a stronger gift, and she would call if she saw me in a dream.

Thanks for sharing you dream, @Trish! I just saw this thread. I used to study dreams years back, and I remember that climbing stairs could represent moving upward in the body or in life, so I would guess that the top represented the thinking part of the brain, or moving upward in life, but not the subconscious. I think the basement is the subconscious (if anyone knows otherwise, please correct me on this). The open door means you had arrived to the top. Yet at the top, you were sad.

It's interesting how you deciphered the age thing. How did you turn back the clock? In the dream? Just curious.
 
Before my second grandson was born, now referred to as the oldest because my first grand baby was stillborn, I had a dream about him.
In the dream he had reddish, fine curly hair (not unusual for Black babies), was light skinned and a film was over one eye, preventing him from opening it. His mother asked the doctor what it was and the doctor said "Don't worry about it, it will clear up by itself".

A couple of months later, he was born and his other grandmother was with me at the hospital. When they rolled the babies out, we did not know he was our baby until they said his last name. He was indeed light skinned but his hair was jet black. When he was taken to his mother, she noticed one of his eyes was shut. The eyelid ("film") would not open. She asked the doctor about it and he said verbatim what the doctor in the dream said!

if it wakes you up or you wake up with it ..it seems very fresh to me and unlikely to dismiss it. but that is just me.
