Google and Chrome getting on my last nerve.

When Google search first came on the scene, they were the best thing since sliced bread! MSN and Yahoo search stunk! Over the years Google's properties like Youtube, Sheets and Docs became indispensable. But lately, particularly on the Chrome mobile app, I've just had it with getting smothered by all sorts of garbage ad "landmines" and unwanted content.
I switched to duckduckgo browser now, and enjoying some peace and quiet. ;)

I am somewhat confused with duckduckgo being referred to as a browser.
Does this mean I can use it to go to youtube, my gmail, seniors forum and other mail accts, etc etc.
without typing in each time?
I always thought it to be just a search engine like Bing.

I use DuckDuckGo as well for my default search engine. And Firefox for my desktop browser and Safari for the iPad.

Yes....me too on the Google and Chrome thing...they tried to set up an unwanted Google Pay account for me...another tricky thing you have to watch.

i use edge as a browser exclusively on my laptop. my phone defaults to google. never been a problem for me. there are ads everywhere. you can run, but you can't hide.

DuckDuckGo is an Internet Search Engine like Google, Bing, etc.. They are now entering the Internet Browser arena like Firefox, Edge, Vivaldi, Safari, etc.. I am currently trying DuckDuckGo browser for Mac and liking it so far but have to say I’m in the very early stages of my test drive but, in their favor, I’ve always enjoyed their search engine that enabled me to avoid Google and their data mining. I’m hoping my test drive of their browser offering is just as successful :coffee:. Don...

I have Mac too and presently using Vivaldi which is a great browser but still get all the Google annoyances.
I am not a Safari fan and would like to hear about your experience with Ducky as a browser:)

I'm using duckduckgo browser app on my Android phone, it has bookmarks like other browsers.

Vivaldi was my default browser and I may go back to it but for now DuckDuckGo has my undivided attention :). To be fair though, this is just my second day test driving the DuckDuckGo browser. You could give it a test while still leaving your default set to Vivaldi? My top 3 for my iMax Pro are Vivaldi, Firefox and now DuckDuckGo. Thanks for the reply :coffee:. Don...

Hmmm...
I have just been advised by a techie person that the stand alone Browser is only available for mobiles, not desktops.
It can be added as an extension to other browsers but I do not want to do that.
I already have it as a Search Engine on Safari.

Sorry to disagree with your techie person but the stand alone DuckDuckGo browser IS available for desktop. I’m using it as I type this, downloaded and installed from the Mac App Store even. Go to Mac App Store and search for DuckDuckGo for mac. You’re Welcome :coffee:. Don...

Oh well I shall do that as soon as I have had my coffee..... Thanks☕

I hate adds. I have been using Firefox for years and I love it. No adds here. Chrome is always trying to force itself on my computer but it doesn't have a snowball's chance in a very, very hot place of every getting on my screen.

Well I am on this page with the Ducky one. Looking for a home page to show bookmarks and still going through settings
later

Are you using the desktop duckduckgo or the mobile version? I only have the mobile version on my phone, the 3 vertical dots in upper right open into a drop-down menu, and reveal the bookmarks and other features:

Click on the 3 vertical dots

So as you can see from post I have Ducky on my desktop as a browser and I just can't wait to tell this know-all techie person who told me otherwise all about it. Laugh good.gif..thank you
I will play around with it today on and off

Another issue with Google, they bought Fitbit lock-stock & barrel in 2019. What could go wrong? Google's meddling and ego, that's what! Millions of Fitbit owners use the Fitbit app, and enjoy the Community features, like being able to create a step challenge with friends. Was doing that for the last 3 years, fellow gym members and myself would do Workweek Hustle or Weekend Warrior challenges, just for fun, but also to encourage each other to push for heightened fitness. However, Fitbit Challenges and other community features abandoned as Google takes the helm.
Dumb! Destroying a devoted user following is just dumb, oh well. Guess who won't be buying another Fitbit watch? A lotta people. Garmin makes a great fitness tracker, and the app is full featured and very polished, probably be my next purchase.
