New here, 66 female, small town USA

Hello,
I retired due to health reason, about 2.5 years ago. Luckily, through a series of choices, I found myself in a small town that is quite affordable. I live alone in a small apartment, and love it for the most part. Making friends in the town where I live has not been easy, as it is part of the bible belt, and the world seems to have gone crazy with hatred and bigotry expressed in so many places. These are things I do not tolerate.
I have been on my own for most of my adult life.

Welcome @powertotheseniors ! Good to have you here.

I am from the bible belt, and lived there much of my life. So I understand. Now I live in a place that's 95% Mormon, kind of a unique environment. I have found that friends can be made most anywhere, but it does get harder as we (me anyway) get older. While I don't tolerate "hatred and bigotry" in friends I do find people with different political and religious belief can still be good friends. Just have to respect each other, and it can make for some interesting discussion.
Don't know if I will stick around as there is hate speech going on.
Are you talking about here? I've not seen it, and I suspect if any did appear our moderator would quickly delete the post or thread. We don't do hate speech.

Yes, the Bible Belt; I hear you! The "good" folks that don't talk to you if you don't do exactly as they think you should. I wish you the best of luck.

It "funny" how all the members of one church are all going to heaven when they die. However, the members of all the other churches are going to burn in hell for eternity because, of course, they all belong to the "wrong church." I wonder what Jesus would say to this kind of thinking?

thanks for the welcome!

Hate speech... here? I've not seen any. We have healthy adult conversations and of course there are going to be disagreements, but for the most part, we tolerate each other pretty well... even like each other for the most part. :giggle: I'm thinking there aren't many places/forums online that won't have people with different ideas (I'd call that LaLa Land) but have at it if you can find one. Healthy dialog that may have differing views is not in any way "hate speech" to me. Oh well, thanks for dropping by anyhow.

to use a horrific crime as a jumping off point to claim immigrants looking for asylum are criminals and assasins for the most part IS hate speech. I flagged it, so not up to me.
I support free speech but making a blanket statement about how the "west" needs to stop allowing immigrants......
Funny how so many people thought I was referring to them.
I am a huge defender of free speech.

Stick around a while, you'll find that is the exception. And it was @hollydolly , she is a very nice lady but sometimes has strong opinions. Most of her posts are interesting, positive, and friendly. I don't always agree with her, or most people here, but we have some good exchanges. Takes a bit of getting used to, but worth it.

I think the post got deleted after you flagged it.

good lord..just joined and already making accusations....

That comment was made by me, because babies have been stabbed by an asylum seeker.. not used as a jumping off point for hate speech it was a comment I made because I repeat again.. murder of children has been caused by an asylum seeker.. I removed it simply because it looked like it was going to crate a political discussion rather than focus on the crime of stabbing babies... Still it's always good to get the measure of a newbie right from the Beginning...

Agreed.
You have to take people in context, just like many other things. Once you know a person you may not agree with them on one thing but there could be many things with which you do agree.

I didn't see it as hate speech, I just saw it as being misinformed. And as yet, based on my question about the claim of most being already criminals, I doubt any evidence will be provided.

As I first looked through the thread you referred to, I already got the impression at least one post there was already 'removed', as at least one of the posts is a reply to a post that doesn't exist anymore.

lol thanks for the compliment Rob....but remember always..it's not what I say...it's how you choose to read it :sneaky:

yes funny that someone joins and within minutes they're making a report of a post as hate speech. Not focusing on babies being stabbed, far more intent on making report because someone said bad words about an Asylum seeking murderer...diddums ...wokeism at it's level best..
