These types of threads are regularly posted and easily avoided. I understand being upset by this topic. I don't know if you've been a member of any other forums, but you'll most likely encounter threads on subjects you'd rather avoid seeing no matter where you go. When you see a thread title that might be upsetting to you, your best bet is to skip over it. Don't read it or become involved in the "discussion". Just move on and find something else you might like to read and contribute to. I hope you decide to stick around and enjoy other topics that aren't upsetting.

I would say that this forum is a microcosm of society as a whole, or at least in part. We will meet all sorts here, as we will in the wider world, with human attributes at different ends of the scale. What I don't see so much here is the extremes of the greater society. Its actually for the most part seems quite tame here. There are some forums I'm grateful I don't belong to, the forums of the extreme views.

I'm sorry that already you might not feel welcome here @powertotheseniors and that some here might have now exacerbated that feeling instead of welcoming you.

I thought it had already been made clear why she reported it, due to the generalisation that was said in that other thread regarding "most" asylum seekers being repeatedly proven to be murderers, or escaped convicts. For which there is no evidence and non has been provided. To now point out a single asylum seeker and then to turn it against the new forum member just comes across as a deflection from the post in that other thread.

I personally didn't see it as hate speech and I wouldn't want to see any of it removed. I just simply saw it as ill-informed and irresponsible comments. Has it happens from what I saw, it 'seems' that aspects of it weren't deleted until after it was pointed out here. And after it was already quoted in that thread. It seems those quotes on that thread are still there for all to see.
 
I haven’t a clue what happened. I never saw any hate speeches. All I saw was someone joining saying they don’t tolerate hatred and bigotry and 2 minutes later saying they couldn’t stay due to haters. . I’ve never seen an introduction and farewell happen so fast.
In my suspicious mind, it looked intentional. Of course I could be wrong and may have missed a whole lot in that few minutes they were here.🤷‍♀️ It was weird.

She introduced herself and 2 minutes later said she couldn’t stay due to the hatred speech she just read.

Maybe whatever she read was too much of a trigger that she realized right then and there that it wasn’t the right site for her. Ok! I can certainly understand that one. Some threads I read , I wish I never read them but you can’t Un - see what you’ve just seen.

Awwww…. I feel bad for her then. I guess she knows her tolerance levels better than anyone.

That comment was made by me, because babies have been stabbed by an asylum seeker.. not used as a jumping off point for hate speech it was a comment I made because I repeat again.. murder of children has been caused by an asylum seeker.. I removed it simply because it looked like it was going to crate a political discussion rather than focus on the crime of stabbing babies... Still it's always good to get the measure of a newbie right from the Beginning...

I read about those babies being stabbed, I didn't read who did it. I am absolutely appalled by the idea of anyone stabbing babies, and those little ones were babies! I hope the criminal gets life in prison!

I too have been on my own. Living in some places can be hard but it sounds like you are independent and can deal with what's around you.

As far as anyone on the board, there are disagreements but most people just move on. It's bound to happen. Holly is a very nice person and you will always know where you stand with her and that's something I appreciate in people.

The only sweeping stereotypes and blanket statements of hate speech I ever see around here are the occasional bigoted remarks about Christians as seen on this thread by you and Packerjohn.

i moved to a small town as well. I knew no one. I joined the senior center and volunteer in their cafe and have made many connections and friends. there are many volunteer opportunities out there.

From one small town dweller to another, welcome and we will try to keep hatred and bigotry down to tolerable levels. Just kidding ... none here.
