The stuff of nightmares...

A female tourist has had her leg amputated after getting it caught in a moving walkway at Bangkok airport.

The 57-year-old Thai passenger was due to board a flight from Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport to the southern Nakhon Si Thammarat province this morning in the airport's Terminal 2.

But in a freak accident, she tripped over her pink suitcase before her left leg was dragged into the mechanism at the end of the travelator.

Horrified passersby fumbled to turn off the emergency switch as the machine continued tearing through the limb's muscle, tendon, and bone.

A medical team there eventually had to cut her left leg off from above the knee, according to the airport's officials. She was then taken to Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital in the capital for emergency treatment.

Wow....... a good lesson that this type of thing while extremely rare could happen .....
my daughter had a experience falling getting cut by an escalator pinching her butt cheek.

i watch when out and about see people doing silly things or goofing off and think what if ....no one pays attention to real safety until they see something like this. while i do not think i would want my photo to go world wide like this ... perhaps this is a teachable moment.

That's a picture I didn't need to see, Holly I know you warned us but I looked anyway.

I have always had a bit of nervousness about those moving sidewalks and escalators. Done my best to ignore it, this ain't gonna help...

Just saw this yesterday. Less injury, but another of those things that makes me nervous...

yes I saw that youtube video a while back with the woman losing her trousers on the treadmill, Rob.. people will tend to put up the speed on a treadmill more than they can cope with... I have one at home and really you have to treat it with respect and know your limits...

On that link I posted with the lady who lost her leg.. I caution you not to scroll down, there are 2 very serious Accidents shown on video.. one that includes a child...
