Today's movies are crummy?????

I just saw "Asteroid City" in the theater. I haven't been to the movies in decades. It's all computerized, there's no ticket person. From the promos about the movie, it seemed to be a good comedy. Well, in my opinion, it was unbelievably awful. And watching the previews of coming attractions, we are scarping the barrel for movie plots. Most of the movies were fantasy "action" junk. One is when Barbie (Yeah, the doll) becomes half human and while she and Ken are on a road trip, they meet some mean girls. ☹️
I admit I'm a grumpy geezer, but I think today's movies are crummy. What's your opinion?
 

Good movies, movies worth the price of a seat, are extremely rare. Hollywood is cranking out junk, Disney fails worse and worse with each new release. Franchises have totally lost all perspective and haven't an ounce of respect for their audience.

I'm sure this is temporary. I only hope it passes before I depart this mortal coil.
 
Not a fan of fantasy, or digital cartoon, or current action, or superhero movies. Nor movies with constant foul language or gratuitous secks for voyeurs sake. So yeah last few years have seen few movies at theaters. At home my TV is infrequently turned on. No cable or streaming just OTA so none of those streaming service movies or popular soap opera series.

A few evenings ago did watch OTA the 2008 remake The Earth Stood Still, that was entertaining with a message I like and consider may be possible that the Earth is actually a rare galactic zoo for DNA life established by advanced aliens and Klaatu came with GORT to exterminate we Earth monkeys that are destroying it. But yeah that kid was overly annoying.

The only movies I watch anymore are on DVD from the library. A lot of the newer ones are junk I agree, but since I did not spend a dime, I don't feel cheated.

Currently I'm watching From Here To Eternity filmed in1953. It has an all-star cast from that era. Excellent.

I never have the motivation or desire to go to a movie theater when I see the trailers on TV. Now a days, they don't know how to make a good movie trailer. There was a time when I was living in New York City (Manhattan & Brooklyn), that I went to the theater at least once a week, or maybe every other week.
 
When it comes to going to a movie theater to watch a movie it's been more years than I can remember. Streaming on HULU, Netflix or Prime is my go to.
When I think about themes maybe the time has come when something new is all but impossible.
Then there is the cost of making a movie that would be seen in theaters before being available thru streaming I think high cost high paid actors & actresses big budget good story movies are in the category of Not going to happen.

Yeah, that kid of Will Smith's gets my last nerve. But Klaatu's the bomb!
 
One of the things that saved me the last time I went to the movies
was the Bar in the theater.

I know it was rude of me to duck out and leave my friends
before the movie was over, but just couldn't stand another minute.

Had a Pint while waiting for them and was told (in a joking manner)
'if it's not in Black and White, we knew he won't like it'.

That's only 90 percent true; I've seen some in color that are pretty good. :)
 
BTW, I didn't check the reviews on "Asteroid City". If I did I would have found out it was not a funny comedy, it was a movie about putting on a play full of "existential angst", dealing with a remote desert town, which is visited by an alien, and the US government. BTW, the actors in the play know they are acting, but the characters they play don't.
The reviews were lousy.
