Oh that is just TOO good!
So true. Age has its benefits.I just do what I like. No guilt.
Way to go!!!!I have no guilt about my pleasures. Life is too short to feel guilty about anything that gives me pleasure. I happily indulge whenever the spirit moves me.![]()
I used to half kill myself looking after two elderly family in my life. Finally I let them go into nursing care because I would have buckled under the strain. It was just too much. Since then they are far better off and I have my life back.Way to go!!!!
I read a similar thing recently and realized i feel the same: Unless one is doing something illegal, contrary to general human decency, or violating their espoused moral codes there should be no 'guilt' attached to pleasure.
While i feel everyone should be able to enjoy their lives, i feel most of us have earned what some folks have always enjoyed: guilt free pleasure/joy. Especially at this stage of life. Most of us have probably spent a good deal of our lives taking care of others, sometimes pushing aside our own needs/wants to do what was necessary, helpful or pleasing to someone else.
Like you eating in front of the TV... never a good idea. What Is Your Current Guilty Pleasure? - Mine is eating while watching Blue Bloods, which I've been binge watching on Hulu. And if it's ice cream I'm eating, that's even better. The guilty part is that I know when I eat while watching T.V., I eat almost twice as much.![]()
And where were those grumblers when you were running yourself ragged?I used to half kill myself looking after two elderly family in my life. Finally I let them go into nursing care because I would have buckled under the strain. It was just too much. Since then they are far better off and I have my life back.
We DO have a duty to ourselves after all. Others in the family, who didn't really help or understand , are grumbling. But I no longer care what they think. I matter too and have my own life to maintain.

I do it all the time, good to keep the neighbors away. What is it with some men? You give 'em a little bit of room and they start striding around with their arms all the way out singing "Don't Fence Me In."
My mother used to cook collard greens, having been born and raised down south. She was a fantastic cook, so I ate them when I lived at home, but never really cared for them. I don't remember how she cooked them. Maybe some pork parts went in there. I've never cooked collard greens a day in my life, kale either. I love my broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. OMG...my mother made the best cabbage! She'd steam them until they were tender with just the water left after washing them. I think she only used butter, not fat back or pork grease.Like you eating in front of the TV... never a good idea.
One I remember was collard greens from my favorite bbq place. For years I always ordered them and ate a lot, feeling like I was eating health food. I often badgered the owner for his recipe but he would not talk. Finally when he shut the place down I got it. He said "you start with 5 lbs of collard greens, five pounds of sugar, and five pounds of bacon grease"... don't remember what he said after that, but it probably doesn't matter. The good thing about it was I didn't feel guilty until it was way too late...
Yes, they want to complain but they never want to step up and help.I used to half kill myself looking after two elderly family in my life.
