Have you heard postage stamps are going up AGAIN to 66¢

Someone set up an email address for me, it was a requirement to join this forum. Never used it, opened it, checked it. Chances are that it's full of junk mail, certainly nothing important, I have never given the address out, in fact, I can't even remember what the address is. Pigeon post still works for me, although some recipients do find it quaint.

Often I will get a text message asking for my email address. "Your guess is as good as mine," I reply.

I can't remember the last time I mailed anything. Maybe at Christmas sending out the cards. We keep a roll or 2 around, but seldom does anything get mailed. The kids usually end up stealing our stamps.

I do believe that we have enough postage stamps to last us a lifetime as hubby likes to buy them. You've heard of a junk drawer', right? Well, we have a stamp drawer. There's plenty of Christmas stamps too.

Our government, as always, just doesn't get it! As they continue to drive up the cost of postage due to falling demand for use of the postal system, people respond by working out ways to accomplish their business and personal needs by using the internet and other technologies to fulfill their communication needs. They are actually sealing their own demise...
On the contrary - delivering letters is a money-losing business. Using the Net is faster and more efficient. We have a lot of younger friends, it would never even occur to them to send anyone a letter or card via snail mail. The faster the USPS gets out of daily mail delivery and concentrates on package delivery, the better financial shape they will be in.

Remember the Postal Service receives no direct taxpayer funds. It relies on revenues from stamps and other service fees.

My point was simply that is the USPS continues to increase postage fees, they will drive what is left of their customers away from using them...
They are breaking a basic rule of economics, when demand is dropping do not up your price to recover lost revenues....it will kill your business...

Aunt Mavis complained about this the other day too. I’d save thousands of dollars of year if I bought stamps for her instead of Rainier Beer. Ouch!!

The one up side to ever-increasing postal rates is that I find I’m getting much less paper junk mail now. That’s all been transferred to spam e-mails, and of course, the beloved telemarketers…

Postal and shipping rates are so high that I hesitate to order things by mail, too. For small purchases, the cost of mailing can exceed the cost of the item! 🙀

A friend told me yesterday postage stamps were going up again second time this year. I rarely use them but at times I have too. It is going to be 1.00 per stamp if this keeps up. The Postal service are pricing themselves right out of business.

I heard last week on the news that the postal service is going to try and raise the price of a first class stamp AGAIN in Jan 2024 from 66¢ to 68¢ that is within 6 months of the last hike.

I’m not surprised.
Everything is going up.
I think the world’s faith and courage collapsed during Covid. Everyone raised their prices due to Covid and if it wasn’t due to Covid raised them just for the hell of it. North Americans humanity seemed to have collapsed.
I think this is the beginning of a new world as we know it. I feel bad for everyone. Life seems foreign at times, so much has changed so fast.

I have heard Canadian post is expensive. I've made a few online purchases from Canada like on Etsy. I can't fault them for the postage they charge. I watch a kitten rescue cam in Canada and want to get one of their t-shirts. Postage will probably be up there but we are both on the west coast.
That’s exactly right.
It’s far cheaper to post to anywhere in America or even Germany than it is to ship across our own country. Only in Canada.
I was just about yo say something political but stopped myself.

Geez I can't keep up with this. I have the latest stamps but this is getting ridiculous.

Wait a minute!!! 66 whole cents to take a letter from my house in CA and deliver it to a friend or family member's house across the country? Outrageous!!! Why, it would only cost me about $400 in airfare to personally do the same thing...

Sigh... some people would complain if you hung them with a new rope.

p.s. For the record, USPS first class letter rates are ALREADY 66¢ and have been since July. The USPS is requesting a 2¢ increase to 68¢.

It wouldn't be so bad but the service has gone so far downhill that I don't put important documents in the USPS. They will lose it, misdirect it, or just give it to someone else.....good way to meet the neighbors.
I actually mail maybe 2-3 things a year.

I'm tired of needing to get 2 cent stamps over and over. Do you mind if I rant a bit?

You are correct, just last week I got my neighbors mail and vice versa, I was expecting an important mail according to informed delivery and it took another 2 days after they showed it on line to get it, yes I am going to complain about another hike in 6 months.

I know they are .66¢ since July I posted it back then, that was from my old thread , I did not want to start a new one, have a nice day!

The 'Forever' stamps don't need additional postage when the price of stamps is raised.
I never heard that before. I don't even know if mine is a forever stamp. It has endangered animals. I send my rent by mail and get penalized if it's late. That is if they have to send my envelope back to me. So it's no joke to me.
