Living vs existing? Which do you do?

Oscar Wilde said, "To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist. That's all."

That's kind harsh but Oscar always was inflammatory.

I think I do my share of both. When vacationing and relaxed and enjoying myself, you bet I am fully alive. Also when creating, my enthusiasm for life is high. Creativity is just the best spark. If I'm composing a speech my intellect if fully engaged and that is exciting. And sometimes I feel like a very small cog in a very large machine. I think we all must have those moments.

How about you? Are you mostly alive or do you feel you just exist?

Interestingly question..many say both and I agree! It depends on what is going on. More and more I am trying to teach myself it really is all about attitude regarding what is happening in my life..I can change my views through my thinking and attitude..I just need to remember I can do that :D

I guess it depends on what one means by "Live". If they mean living a dynamic, experience filled life, that's one thing, but if they mean a contented, happy, and fulfilled life, that's not necessarily dependent on a busy life. It is really quite astounding what you can subtract from your life and still be quite happy and contented when you mind is right and your soul is at peace.
That being the case, I would answer that most of the time, I live.

One person's "living" is another's "existing".

Previously, I thought life of an elderly person is "just existing" - daily routines without excitement. With age and covid, I am living the life of the elderly and find comfort in the "boring" routines.

I am an introvert and live alone in the family home with the best companion (ie the dog). He is my exercise program (3 miles/day walks), security (body slams the door when strangers approach) and plate cleaner LOLOL!!

Yes. Attitude is important and controllable.
:giggle:

Oscar Wilde was a mess.

I have a book of 4 of his best plays but his personal story reveals a person with no idea what he was doing.

As long as you can function independently, life is just fine. But if you can no longer get around, life blows. Do your best to enjoy what you can enjoy.
True on all counts. Oscar was the type who couldn't stand being unnoticed so he infuriated lots of people. He was from a wealthy family. I rest my case. And of course independence beats the alternative. Any day!
