Why do some people talk so loudly?

I was reading a hilarious James Herriot story about a farmer who talked incredibly loudly all the time.

It brings to mind several people I am aware of who simply talk unnecessarily loudly. I cannot stand noise and wish I could turn their volume down. Yet others speak so quiet you have to strain to hear them at all. Of course some loud people are also very cheerful and make people feel better, life and soul of the party types. It's about confidence too.

I suppose it's just habit, do you have a loud or quiet voice?

I know exactly what you are talking about! My neighbor talks so loud that everyone who meets him mentions it. I can hear every word he says in his apartment. I hate it.

I have a quiet voice. Nobody even hears me if I yell.......well maybe my bunny does, but it is rare that I have to yell.

Interesting topic. OK, so when I was in the military, we had several men come though that were "loud talkers." One reason why this was happening was because some people have hearing difficulties and although, every recruit must pass a hearing test, it's not all that difficult to fake it. Some were sent to a treatment facility for further evaluation and this is how it was discovered men were getting by.

My concern is "Why do some people feel a need to almost shout into a cellphone?" My Colonel was a habitual 'offender' of this practice. I probably told him 50 times that he didn't need to talk so loud. He wasn't a loud talker, except when he was on the cellphone. I had to hold the phone away from my ear.

Also, I dated 3 different women while in Florida. One of them was a loud talker. How do you tell a stranger to tone it down, so the people at the next table doesn't hear your conversation?

I am not a loud talker.. and what I do hate are low class people who talk loud...you hear them before you see them...

That said..my estranged husband speaks very quietly.. it's a real PITA... it's impossible to hear him anywhere where there's background noise.. pubs, restaurants, etc.... I kept telling him to go get his ears tested, but he never would

When I grew up all the yentas spoke loudly and so do I. Everyone spoke in a loud voice. I can't hear anyone unless they're yelling at me!

Jerry Seinfeld and "low talkers" wound him up in big trouble:
Is this episode where Jerry agrees to wear the "puffy shirt?"

You can always hear Americans before you see them in Europe. After living there for years, I appreciated hearing the affable gladness of Americans.

I had a programmer job in Dallas and there was this guy who would talk excessively loud on calls or in person. Management moved two of us that had a quiet office into a bigger room with him!😡🤬🙉🙉

Low class? How....elevated of you.

When I hear loud talkers, I wonder if they have hearing problems.
.. but usually not little kids who do that, because they just want to be heard over the rest.

My father was losing his hearing and started shouting when he talked. When I took him out to lunch we had a system where I would tap his hand twice to let him know to lower his voice so I didn't have to shout back at him to tone it down. Worked pretty well.
