To My Creative Friends: Please Describe Your Creative Process?

I am not really creative like many of you, but I can do things if I have a drawing or print. My very first job out of college was as an apprentice. I’m just not imaginative enough to make my own designs. I decided very quickly that I needed to stick with my first love of being a state cop.

I remember back in the 70’s when the Japanese were copying things Americans were making and our CEO at the time made the comment that the Japanese are not creators, but duplicators. True or not, his examples he gave were pretty much right on. Most of it concerned the auto industry.

What a great thread Diva, I had missed it before. I'm so impressed with all the talent, here!

Due to neural plasticity, we are and become what we do. The more one repeats whatever the more such becomes part of what one is.

Thank you for reminding me of that, David. I have no particular talent, but from time to time I remind myself to sit down and, "Do art." No muse ever comes to me, yet I can tell it's good for me. Whether it's a drawing or painting from my imagination or even just coloring while listening to music, it always makes me feel happier and clearer.

Can redecorating be considered a creative endeavor? I've redecorated so many rooms in my houses, and they all started with a "vision" of what they could be. Then I spend hours researching the perfect color, the perfect piece of furniture, etc., all the way down to the perfect flower vase. Once I get all my ideas together, I start to shop! Finding what I want, at a reasonable price can be quite creative!

Not all rooms inspire me though. Sometimes I walk into a room and see nothing. Other times I see a room and I immediately get a feel for the room and my imagination takes over.

@caroln Yes Interior decorating is a creative hobby, pastime or endeavour. Some make a living having it as a job or jobs. Congrats!

@Hopeful1 I can help from here, if you'd like? Just now, make a rough sketch of your abode aka the place you call home LOL.

It's entirety up to you which colours you prefer, however, I'll give you my views, if I may...

Last residence, we wanted dark colours for heat retention and relaxation. Living room had a dark brick red on 3 walls, 4th wall, where the fireplace was, had two colours blending with the brick red. Soft pink beige on chimney breast and a darker pink on the remaining two halves of 4th wall.

Kitchen, was an extremely cute butter colour, it needed to be light as not much sun came in through windows.

Bathroom was silver with black accents, suite was white and silver.

Hallways and stairs, a dark leafy green, with the steps and bannisters, a dark oak veneer.

Kids bedroom were easy, pink for daughter, blue for son. Ours was beige on 3 walls, 4th wall dark chocolate brown.

New abode, we went into pastel shades as it was going to be our OAP Pad for our golden years.

Living Room is beige, with polyester curtains creating a wall feature, brick fireplace. We got two silver and glass baubles ceiling units. Once more at B&M.

Kitchen, is an amazing Moroccan yellow much darker than previous one, but with the sunshine coming in, simply amazing. It had a good ceiling feature already.

Bathroom is water blue and in honour of our son's eye colour. Same type of light fixture in bathroom.

Hallways and stairs are Sage Green in the pastel range. With unfinished light oak bannisters with the dark brown carpet included when we moved in. We were lucky to find a chandelier for under £20 at B&M.

Daughter's room, she chose the mauve purple colour, a blend of pink and blue, in honour of her lost brother. Her ceiling unit is white shade with delicate purple flower motif.

Ours, we went silver, black storage unit, a silver patterned ceiling shade in metal, black panelled curtains over the all wood closet unit from IKEA.

Playing with the three basic colours, red, blue and yellow at school in first grade, I got loads of praises from teacher. However, it was the beginning of being the recipient of bullying.

So, gift or talent, hubby liked it... To me, it's the ability to blend colours which got my backside beaten more often than I care to remember. Sorry! Feeling down a bit today. My bad! Cheers!

@911 That you can do something with a drawing or print means you have creative ability.
@caroln Being able to redecorate is definitely creative. Not everyone has that knack.
