Moderation? A question about it.

Isn't moderation a form of balance?
I’m not answering for Jamala, but the idea of moderation actually helps me to find my balance. I’m often overdoing things which then overwhelms me and your question about doing things in moderation helped put this into instant perspective for me. I kind of forgot about the importance of moderation so thank you.

Moderation and balance in philosophy both refer to avoiding extremes, but they refer to different types of extremes. Moderation typically refers to avoiding excess in one's actions or lifestyle.
In ancient Greek philosophy, for example, the virtue of moderation (also known as "sophrosyne") was considered a key component of a virtuous life. It meant avoiding excesses in things like pleasure, wealth, and power, and instead striving for a balanced and moderate approach to life.

Balance, on the other hand, typically refers to avoiding extreme or one-sided perspectives or opinions. In ancient Chinese philosophy, for example, the concept of balance and harmony was considered central to a virtuous life. It meant avoiding extreme or one-sided views and instead striving for a balanced and holistic perspective. In summary, moderation is about avoiding excess in one's actions or lifestyle, while balance is about avoiding extreme or one-sided perspectives or opinions.

It seems most people are constitutionally drawn to extremes during teens and early adulthood, then find moderation and balance more palatable as we get older. That's how life has played out for me.

I prefer a calm environment now but my youth was a new places to go, new people to meet, new things to do, hellzapoppin, lifestyle. Go to bed late, get up early and start all over again.

..agreed... I was an absolute wild child as a teen with a real attitude ... when I say that, I mean Wild, kinda untamed ...as in back 50 years ago..when wild meant staying out later than you should, being arrogant, and insolent ... not drugs or stuff like they do today...

I indulged in a few drugs back then, but otherwise my behavior was the kind of wild you're talking about. Other than the drugs, I stayed on the right side of the law. There were times I was foolish but rarely stupid or cruel and never completely amoral.

Are you talking about me? Not sure what ‘hellzapoppin’ means, pretty sure it’s what I did. 🤭
