Regrettable Retro Food from the 50's

I liked Spam when I was a kid. It had to be fried, though, and slightly charred around the edges.

My grampa liked Spam with sauerkraut. (gack!)

One regrettable 50s meal I can think of is Tuna Casserole. My mom made tuna casserole every Wednesday for a few months or so, and hers was reasonably palatable, but I didn't look forward to Wednesdays eagerly until she switched it back to spaghetti night.

When times were tough, Mom cooked egg noodles and sweet peas smothered in melted butter and herbs for dinner. Grated white cheese was optional.

It was actually one of my favorite dinners, and I still make it myself now and then.

It's tasty. Butter, herbs, and cheese is actually the original old Alfredo sauce recipe but Mom (Italian) left out the cheese (pecorino romano) because 2 of my brother didn't like it.

I can polish off a whole can of sardines, and I like anchovies on my pizza. ^that's not a pizza.
