This grew out of potting soil I used

When I plant tomatoes in a pot that contains some of my home grown compost, the plants grow like crazy and then start to curl. Still growing fast but deformed, and fruit production is substandard. As for prepackaged soil products, from reading reviews, they can range from gravel to mostly tree bark, and be sold as topsoil, compost, potting soil, or just about anything that can be put in a bag. Probably somewhere, they sell product that matches the label, but I haven't found that place yet.
 

Where are they getting these potting soils? I could buy a bag, put it in a pot, water it and I'd have plants galore without even planting any seed! Unless a mouse or squirrel fished seeds out of somebody's trash and secreted them in my pots on the porch. That seems a stretch, though. This grew out of another pot:
