Windows Updates In Windows 11

Is anybody else, besides me having to learn how to do updates in Windows 11?

During Wednesday Day Windows 11 was updated.
Then Wednesday Evening Windows 11 appeared to have needed another update.
To make a long story short- Windows 11 did not update properly.
Thursday Day, that Windows Security Yellow Warning Triangle appeared.
I called tech support. I followed their advice or suggestions.
That failed.
That resulted in my having online remote tech support.
If Windows 11 had updated properly I most likely would not have needed online tech remote support (to repair the situation).

Thursday Evening I contacted Microsoft Support for information on updating Windows 11.
I will re-read that information.

Doing updates in Windows 10 was easier than it is in Windows11.
In previous Windows Versions, that pop up box--notice would appear asking: Update Now/ Or Update Later/Remind Me Later?

If you get an error code while downloading and installing Windows updates, the Update Troubleshooter can help resolve the problem.

Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters. Next, under Get up and running, select Windows Update > Run the troubleshooter.

When the troubleshooter is finished running, it's a good idea to restart your device.

Next, check for new updates. Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates and then install any available updates.

If the problems aren't all resolved, try running the troubleshooter again to check for additional errors, or see Fix Windows Update errors and follow the troubleshooting steps.

Thank you for your reply.

I did not receive an error code.
Windows11 did not update properly.

I was looking at my Windows 11 Update.
There appears to be a setting for notifications.
At this moment, I do not plan to touch one setting.
I will manually check and if necessary have to manually update.

People that don't understand the complexity of such products have been whining about bugs they think are Microsoft's fault since earliest Windows releases. Because of such, some in the past tried to sue Microsoft but instead were given a lesson in why bugs ought always be expected on such computer hardware and software. Take it or leave it. Computers are not like flashlights. Reality is during this mature tech era, there are myriad non-Microsoft applications and accessory hardware, far too many to expect Microsoft to do the complete compatibility testing against, nor similarly for other OS's. Years ago people had more control over updates, but that was an increasingly a can of worms, with most problems due to customer actions who are too lazy to ever read instructions beyond a few sentences. My expensive 2012 Dell laptop has now been running occasional updates for a decade now without ever getting stuck.

I am sticking with Windows 10 and refuse to get Windows 11. Enough is enough! If they shove it down my throat; my next computer will be a Mac. You might guess that I am tired of the constant updates after updates after updates.
I know a man who has had his Apple Computer for several years.

I spoke with techs about the constant Windows 11 updates.
They explained why it was okay or normal to have many updates.
I expressed a differnt viewpoint.
I am not a tech, so my opinion does not hold much weight or merit.

Microsoft should do better testing jobs.
In my opinion, they have a pattern or history of releasing one version of Windows after another -a little too soon.

Revert back to Windows 10. It's still being supported.

That's right but I'm not "trendy" like some folks who switich formats just to keep up with those crazy and outdated "Joneses."

My Windows 10 works fine. I refuse to become a trendy sheep following the shepard (ie: Microsoft Corporation).

On Saturday, 8/5/2023 and on Sunday,8/6/2023 I had online remote tech support.

The support was for multiple things.
On Saturday, 8/5/2023 we were getting those fake windows security pop up windows.
Macafee and its extension came installed on my new computer.
The tech unistalled that and removed its extension.
The tech also removed my other extensions.
I do not know why that big Xbox box began to show up on my Desktop Screen.
The tech also removed that big Xbox Download box by disabling it.
The tech also set Windows 11 Update to notify me for restarting the computer.

I hope that resolves all of my Windows 11 problems.

Windows 11 comes with all new computers.

If the iPhone is any indicator, you might not gain anything by moving to a Mac in terms of updates.

Part of "being supported" is receiving fairly regular updates. As Microsoft discovers or becomes aware of weaknesses in their OS, they write patches to eliminate the weakness or, in rare cases, add functionality. Going back to Windows 10 will not eliminate updates until they stop supporting that release.

Windows Updates In Windows 11
Updates ARE important, however the way Microsoft has designed Windows it seems they've managed to make the very important updating as annoying as possible. Forced reboots, long drawn-out update processing on initial boot- annoying and inconvenient on many levels.

I use Arch-Linux based operating systems, are referred to as "rolling release" in that there are frequent updates, but in smaller increments. The operating system never needs to be replaced with a newer version. The difference between Windows updates and Linux updates is the speed in which that happens. Right just this moment I commanded my system to update, less than 10 seconds, that's it. Occasionally a reboot is necessary, but my system asks me, and lets me postpone the reboot to when it's convenient.
