What are you going to do with all your stuff?

You've been dragging home all kinds of things for last 45 years, or so. Some of it, you can't even remember you have. What are you going to do with all your stuff? What about your stuff when down sizing, or moving to the 'old folks' areas of the nation??

BTW, the reason for this thread was I tried to make space in my shed for a garden wagon, when I found an unused toaster oven, which I can't remember buying.
 

Mainly a disease of those that own homes that needed to be filled. Especially those in recent decades addicted to leisure shopping. Those of us that have only ever lived in small residences long ago were forced to limit what we brought home because there was little space left. Thus except for physically small items, any larger stuff needed to have ongoing value while whatever didn't was eventually tossed into the garbage or landfill.

every month I take a large bag or 2 or 3.. of donations to the charity shop.. let someone else get use out of my things for a fraction of their original price.. and for the charity to make money for those who are ill, homeless, .. or in desperate need

I got rid of 90% of my possessions years ago. I am a minimalist. It is totally freeing. The less I own the happier I am.
 
I've never been someone who holds on to useless stuff but even so I have a home and a barn and property so probably have more than I realize. The running joke between me and the kids is " what do you think this will bring at the estate sale?"

Isn't that where most of our treasures will go?

That sounds kind of exciting to find an unused toaster oven (assuming new and in a box). Are you going to use it now?

I am so thankful that I sold my house last year and only had three weeks to get rid of everything and thankful that I was planning to travel for a year or two so didn't put anything in storage. Even though it hurts a little to spend money to buy replacements for some of the items I got rid of, the overall feeling is a huge relief not to have all that stuff anymore.
 
I've posted about this elsewhere on this site. I've spent several months this year going through every cabinet, closet, drawer and box in my house, sorting things out. I have donated so many things and it feels good. It was all usable stuff that has a second life now and might help someone else. But that was only phase one. I have to do a second and maybe third sweep because there is still more to get rid of.

That's the thing, it never ends. I suppose I should just be thankful that I have things but instead I'm always thinking it will never be gone. :rolleyes:
 
When my brother and I went thru Mom's stuff, she had 27 cut off power cords from various defunct kitchen devices
Don't ask

As for my lady
She has maybe 3000 knitting/crocheting needles
A few thousand books...mostly cook books

I speed up when a garage sale sign looms ahead

I cleaned out my grandmother's house and came across a cigar box with "used pencils" written on the top. It wasn't mislabeled, the box was full of pencils that had been used all the way up to the eraser, nothing left but a nub.

Then my old neighbor who had dozens upon dozens of old coffee cans full of used nails. His plan was to go thru and straighten them out.....some day.
 
I am gradually working my way through my ‘stuff’ but should I leave for an ‘old folks area’, any white goods or furniture that my daughter dosn’t want, can go to either the people who move into my home or a charity enterprise, along with clothes, bags etc.
