Do you refashion?

It's my favourite jeans that has prompted me to ask this question. The jeans are a great colour and fit but, the frayed hems and wide-ish legs were no longer my thing so, they languished in the wardrobe for a couple of years, just in case they become fashionable again. The last wardrobe sort-out I came across the jeans again and I had an idea. I lopped off a chunk from the length and hemmed them so they are now cropped to around ankle length and back in fashion :)

So, any other refashionisters here and, if so, what was your most successful refashion?

I fixed a periwinkle blue summer knit halter top from XXXLL to my size which is small because I loved the color so much. I took it in on either and cut off the cap sleeves. Who wears a halter with cap sleeves??? My most successful alteration was turning a broken bracelet into a pair of earrings. I couldn't lose it because I loved it so much and I could not repair it without soldering so I made earrings.

We have a long standing all volunteer thrift shop that still has a 50 cents clothing rack! I found a nice pair of jeans on there. They had been taken in at the waist with darts. Perhaps that's why they put them on the discount rack. I had been wanting to make a pair of jeans into knee length shorts. So I did and they came out pretty good.

I've had to shorten a lot of pants. But I'm not good at reconstructing clothing.

Well, Now you will know how cheap I am! I have a couple thin cotton plaid shirts, which is what I wear in the summer.
I noticed the sleeve was torn on my favorite old blue plaid shirt. I love this shirt! No way am I going to throw this away!
I'm hand sewing the sleeve and will wear it till it completely falls apart! hahaha!

I've always bought classic clothing so I have the option of dressing them up or down. I haven't needed to refashion. But my honorary daughter, whose gotten into sewing, is learning how to turn jeans into skirts (I believe instructions are on YouTube). I'm hoping she can do it for me because I have a pair that have gotten quite baggy and look sloppy on me now and I'm having a devil of a time finding the right jean skirt in stores and online.

I am planning to have a go at making jewellery. Sounds like you are a very successful refashionista 🙂

That's exactly what I would have done. No sense throwing away your favourite clothes if you can mend them. Anyway, vintage is very desirable now. 🙂

I have done that before and it's a really good refashion. I notice there are a lot of long, jeans style skirts in the shops at the moment. Best wishes to your honorary daughter, I am sure she will make many lovely things. 🙂

My sister has to wear a 3-piece outfit (of her choosing) to work but she had way too many blazers and wanted more vests, so I partially dismantled 3 of her blazers and made them into vests.
Well done! that's not an easy task. I bet your sister was really pleased. I only know one guy who sews and he refuses to use a sewing machine because he likes to hand sew while he watches Netflix. 🙂

She loved them. One of them is made of a fabric that feels and looks kind of like upholstery; thick, with a dark, complex pattern somewhat like paisley. She gets a lot of compliments on that one. It's much more attractive as a vest than a blazer.

And it was challenging because she likes the bodice form-fitted. Blazers and jackets aren't usually made that way.
