Illinois Has An Assault Weapons Ban, Makes Me Think About Moving to Illinois!

They can ban them all they want, but mass murderers, gang members, and terrorist groups will still have them readily available through various sources not available to ordinary citizens. So what's the point? Just my opinion.
You make a reasonable point. The assault weapons are still available legally in the surrounding states. To be very effective the ban would need to be nationally, but its a start.

From what I've read, confiscating guns on a wide scale would be a hugely complicated task, involving investigations, search warrants, illegal gun dealers, the black market, etc.
I am sure it would be, but cutting off the legal supply and providing law enforcement with the ability to charge people who possess them would be a start. One step at a time... it would take a while but without the first step it will never happen at all.

Not a 100% answer, but then nothing ever is. Outlawing murder hasn't stopped it, but I am sure our murder rate is much lower than it would be if it were legal...

Makes Me Think About Moving to Illinois!

Well, the state with the biggest population loss is New York ... where you're thinking of leaving
Followed by Illinois ... where you're thinking of moving to
I'm sure there's room for one more to the party in either one

Backup consideration: Oakland California where police recommend air horns to deter criminals
Which are said to be slightly more effective than dog whistles

Outlawing Anything just leads to another "black market" and allows the criminals and gangs to make More Money, Outlawing booze during the days of Prohibition made the Mafia rich, and that principal would apply to any "weapons" ban.
May be some truth to what you are saying.

Has certainly been true for drugs, making them illegal has put great wealth into the hands of cartels and drug dealers. And we have proven unable to do much about it.

Not sure if guns would go that way, but it is something to think about.

First off, what is an assault weapon?
exactly often the definition in legislation is not even clear and many politicians when asked straight out have not been able to define and often show a lack of basic gun knowledge.
If a BAN on anything makes people feel safer so be it................ but as Chicago already has strict gun control laws the weekly shootings show most of this is a practice of ...
"STOP ... or i will yell STOP again "

Yep. Guess it has to be black and scary to rate "assault weapon" status.
Good example... Which of these guns would be considered an assault weapon?

Here's a thought. If it's general knowledge that the entire state is assault weapon free, doesn't that just paint a big target on all the residents' backs?

I live in a large US city and what keeps people away is the uncertainty of how dangerous you potentially are.

Look at where the mass school shootings occur. They happen in nice peaceful communities where the shooters feel they can approach unnoticed and where people are unarmed and not dangerous.

In the city, everybody carries himself as if he's not taking any crap from anybody. And they keep alert and ready for trouble. And some of them are carrying.

But they won't be waltzing down to the local gun shop at 18yo and buying them w an hours worth of effort in a fit of rage w the goal of killing as many people as possible.

"You have a target on your back if you're not packing an AR".......what a dumb statement. Please find a better set of talking points cause that one makes no sense.
