I like the idea that you have open windows most of the year! If it's in San Francisco (I see from your avatar), I remember visiting there one summer and feeling the breeze and thinking how it didn't feel as hot as up north.I've always loved houses with porches. However, I live in an area that has a Mediterranean climate, so it's open windows for 2/3 of the year anyway. We're as likely to wear short sleeves in January as we are to grab a Polarfleece jacket in August, LOL. So altho I have a modest little front porch, we don't use it for anything except as a place for Amazon to put the delivery boxes down on!
Good side: no mosquitos unless you go into park or freshwater pond areas.
Bad: I miss fireflies!!!!
No, glass roofs are a pain in the keister and will raise your insurance premium by quite a chunk, or it might not be insurable at all.I looked up conservatory and here is a link with photos: https://www.houseandgarden.co.uk/gallery/conservatory
I remember visiting a relative once and we went out to her "atrium" and it was summer and felt like a heat trap with all the sunlight pouring in because the roof was all glass and the windows were shut. I don't think I want a roof that is glass, lol.
Thanks for the photos! That roof over the porch makes all the difference. My deck has no roof, so I was thinking more like building an enclosed porch that kept away some of the elements...Sure do

Thanks for the tips! Insurance premium just went up a chunk without me doing anything, and I don't want it to go higher....No, glass roofs are a pain in the keister and will raise your insurance premium by quite a chunk, or it might not be insurable at all.
Maybe a skylight, tho.
Had to have it up thereThat roof over the porch makes all the difference.
Just noticed the third picture with the snow-covered vehicle. The headlights look like some sad bear's eyes, lol.Sure do

Did just that at our house in townI was thinking more like building an enclosed porch that kept away some of the elements...
Yeah, had to tarp the Wrangler if I ever cared to go to town in winterJust noticed the third picture with the snow-covered vehicle. The headlights look like some sad bear's eyes, lol.
Oh yes we can use it all year round. As well as the small fireplace, it is double glazed.I used to read about them in novels! The image you are painting of it overlooking the garden is irresistible! So with the fireplace, you could basically use it year round. Right?
Love the snowman (Some assembly required).Sure do

Thanks for the photos! Loved your house and the 3 season porch!I have a 3 season porch that I designed as part of the house. I call it a sunroom. There is a single slider that opens from the great room to the sunroom. I keep it closed in the winter, so no need to heat it. In the other 3 seasons, I have a double slider 10 ft. that opens up to the deck. It has sliding screens for bugs as well as the glass doors.
I love it during the nicer months. You can sit out there and read with lots of light, and open the windows for a cross breeze. Then when you open the double sliders, it feels like it's an open room on one side.
The bonus, is that I keep the more sensitive outdoor plants in pots that might die from the cold. So in the winter, I spread out a few big black plastic garbage bags on the floor of the sunroom off to one side, put all the plants on there, and I really only need to water them about every two weeks. Then when danger of frost is over, back outside they go, and the sunroom is ready to enjoy.

Awesome! Thanks for the photos! Loved the coziness.I live in a condo and just had my balcony enclosed. I absolutely love to read and drink coffee out there. I can use it year round and look at the beautiful courtyard.
Thanks for sharing your photos! The front porch is inviting and the old screen house looks like a nice retreat! We enjoy the nice weather. Sunporch facing the south for the winter.
Front porch for the nice weather. I have also installed mosquito curtains on the front porch.
An old screenhouse for when the traffic is too noisy for the front porch.
That is wonderful that you use it every day of the year!My apartment has an enclosed outdoor patio, and it gets used every day of the year.
... a good place to just sit and relax - and even (especially) during rain storms.
Do you use it often? We have a nice large deck, however we just are not outdoor people. I must add that of course it has a roof and 2 sky lights.
Sounds inviting, although I am looking for something that keeps the bugs and sun out, yet comfortable enough to spend time in. We used to have a wrap around veranda at our cabin in the mountain and used to sit outside in the evenings watching the stars. We have a 3/4 house veranda wrap around. It’s not winterized though. It doesn’t get much snow on it since it’s covered but if there’s a big storm we sometimes do. I like it.
