What was the worst thing you ever bought?

AMC Hornet....what a piece of junk it was! Always something needed worked on or taken into the shop. On top of that, the lights would go completely off at night when driving with absolutely no warning. I had it happen a few times out on mountain highways...now that was scary!

If it's car related - my parents bought me a used Fiat when I graduated from high school thinking I could use it to matriculate to college. It never worked right. I think they returned it after a fight with the dealer and spending more on repairs than it cost to buy. Then they bought me a Ford Maverick. That was a great little car.

Most likely, it's the 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 I bought from a friend in 1973. I wanted to kill him because he dumped that POS on me. He told me it was in great shape. 🤨 It was a total disaster from the moment I got it. That dreadful contraption had three flat tires in one day, and the muffler and exhaust pipe snapped off! Needless to say, after a few months, I ditched that hunk of junk.

Fiats still have a bad reputation... not quite as bad as they were in the 70's and 80's... but still not great..

The worst thing I ever bought was this bungalow. Nice location etc, but a bungalow without an upstairs just isn't me.
Coming up to 12 yrs later, and I still miss stairs.
The lack of climbing stairs umpteen times a day is showing itself now too. My legs protest when
I climb steps when they never did before.
Bah humbug.
You are so right Quakers, climbing stairs is one of the very best exercises you can do.

I'm pretty careful when I buy something, always research first, but the latest worst thing I've bought is a deep fryer. I thought it would be fun to deep fry my own french fries, chicken wings, mushrooms, etc. but it turned out to be a greasy mess all over my counter. Then I had to wash the whole greasy thing. And I realized I really didn't need all those calories and fat in my diet, so I quit using it altogether.

Anyone want to buy a barely used deep fryer?? :sneaky:

Additionally, when I said I wanted a foreign car...my gal-pal had an MG..
My Dad (who was a good guy.. always said & thought
.."Buy American"...
was gonna "teach me a lesson"..
took me to a used car lot at night..(later learned a no-no)
where the clear 100w light bulbs were strung above all the cars..making them all look so shiny..
Well, it was black, shiny and " the right price"
But, as stated in 1st post..👎
it eventually became named Beetle Bomb.

What an experience😉

A pair of Bose headsets, which have always been expensive, but I bought these back in about 1985. Some pilots carry their own headsets, like me, while others use the company sets, which are usually terrible as they sound like an echo.

The Bose set I bought cost over $200. That was a lot back then. I used them for a flight going to Denver and each time I would key the mic, I would get a slight shock in my ear. When I got home and took them to the store where I bought them, the fellow hooked them up to a radio and tried them for himself and he also was shocked. He said he didn’t know why they did that, but I was able to replace them with a pair of Technics. I used them for 15 years before they finally wore out.

I like headsets to be crystal clear, so I can hear the controllers speak very plainly.

I'm sorry to hear that. I was just going to write my worst purchase was that house I bought. Since sold.

I hope however that you like the area and feel safe where you are.
Hi Remy,
Yes, it's a good quiet safe area (altho' no-one can guarantee it will stay that way no matter where they live).
Glad to hear you got rid of yours and hope you are happy where you are.

Another bad car I had was a 1980 Pontiac Sunbird. A good looker, but I always had trouble with the brakes and the garage never was able to repair them properly.
