Do/did you buy clothes for your partner?

Ron was always the one to buy his own clothes. His ex-wife would sometimes buy them for a birthday or Christmas etc, but typically he outfitted himself.

Since we’ve been married that task has somehow become mine! 😂 I don’t mind at all, in fact I enjoy it, but I’m still trying to figure out how it happened!

My ex was very opinionated about what he wore (he was highly opinionated about everything!) and didn’t want me buying him any clothes at all, other than underwear. Even then he’d sometimes tell me to return them because he didn’t like the pattern, and they HAD to be patterned!

Ron loves what I buy for him! I tend to choose things with more color, things he wouldn’t pick for himself, and yet when I find a colorful shirt or tee and bring it home, he can’t wait to wear it!

Just the other day I stumbled upon a great sale and ended up buying him 4 shirts…a striped navy and white polo shirt, a teal tee, a powder blue button up short sleeved linen shirt, and a white, light blue and light green striped tee.

He immediately grabbed several items from his closet to send off to goodwill and replaced them with these! Said he’d been waiting for a reason to go through his closet and I’d just given it to him. 😂

I always buy clothes for my husband. He hates clothes shopping. He is very easy to buy for. I know his taste and his colour choices.
He seldom buys me clothes but when he does, I do like what he chooses for me.

Ron seldom buys clothes for me. He’s very unsure about what I might like etc. Jewelry on the other hand is a different matter, and that’s where he excels!

Diamonds are my favorite stone (incidentally also my
birth stone) and he loves to buy them for me. He’s purchased rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces and I’ve loved every single thing!

If I see an item I know for certain my husband will like then I will purchase it for him which includes, shirts, shoes, slippers, jackets and hats. Actually anything I see that I think my husband would really like, I purchase for him.

Not long ago I purchased a zip up shaving bag and hand picked some luxurious shaving items I thought he’d really like with subtle scents like cedar wood, sandalwood. It has a shaving brush, shaving soap, beard oil and a gentle type of aftershave. He shaves his head every couple of days and often tells me how much he likes it. It’s something that he wouldn’t know that he likes until he tries it.

When he had the most important promotion interview, I picked out his entire outfit including shoes, socks and tie. It was an important promotion which he got. He said he got a lot of compliments which helped boost his confidence and I wouldn’t normally have picked out his clothes, since he’s a grown man who can pick out his own, but he specifically asked for my help, which I thought was really sweet.

I even picked out his ATV, wood splitter and wood grinder as well as some of his favourite carving tools, pocket knife etc. I purchased his first bandsaw as a surprise gift and that was 33 years ago.

I like picking things out for him that I think he’ll like. It’s nice surprising people you love most. Seeing that big smile of excitement is priceless.

He often buys things for me including clothes but he takes a picture and texts me just to make sure I like it first. He’s smart about it which I appreciate.

No but I would do if he was looking for something specific, couldn't find one, but I did find one for him. Also I do for birthdays and Christmas. He would be better dressed if I did all the time but I don't say anything because I know he would be wounded. ;)

When I spot something on sale I think he’ll like, I buy it. If he doesn’t, I do the return. If he mentions he needs something, I go with him. He hates shopping and I don’t mind.

Now here’s the problem. He doesn’t do what Ron does.
He immediately grabbed several items from his closet to send off to goodwill and replaced them with these!

I didn’t even know you were married or living with someone.

I have no choice and I would rather buy my own clothes anyway. I have seen clothes that women buy for their men and then I have heard men lie and tell their wives how much they really like the shirts or pants they bought.

I remember my roomie over in Inchon whose wife went shopping for him before we left the states and he was unpacking his trunk and says, "Does she really think I am going to wear this?" It was a blue and green sweater with a red sword and shield in the upper left hand corner of his chest. He asked me if I liked it and I told him not really. He asked me if I wanted it and I told him, "No, but thanks." I think that was the ugliest sweater I ever saw, but I didn't tell him that.

I bought souvenir t-shirts for my late wife. One has a picture of a bear and the caption "Mama Bear". I have one that says "Papa Bear". They were fun when we would wear them together.
