What are you doing today 2023

Disaster. I had some boiled potatoes left and decided, recklessly, to attempt making potato pancakes with them, even though every recipe calls for raw, grated potatoes! What a mess of wasted eggs, potatoes and flour! I wish I had an animal to feed, but they'd probably turn up their noses on it as well! :)
You actually did it right, @Old Salt ... or at least the way I always heard about... starting with cooked (leftover) mashed potatoes.

Huh .... I would not have guessed that wouldn't work. People make potato pancakes from mashed potatoes, but maybe those aren't actually pancakes. They are more of a patty. I don't know.

Thanks for the encouraging words, Kate! I actually only sampled a bit and found the patties too soft for me taste. I will make an earnest effort to eat them, maybe with a bit of apple sauce!

Maybe not enough oil or butter in the skillet, or maybe use a cast iron skillet. I heard that may help, but I'm an amateur. I will leave that to the smart ones.
I used a cast iron pan, with lots of butter. My mother used to use lard but I had none in the house! And I think I know the cause of my failure now. After eating one I decided it could have used more flour. That's what happens if you never measure things and go by feel! Sadly I am not the cook I was, I seem to have lost the touch!

After eating my disastrous potato pancakes (I do not throw out food .. ever, see WWII) I am going to see what my newly acquired sports streaming service has to offer today.

My daughter, son-in-law and I watch the Bundesliga every Sunday afternoon and we were very upset when our ISP no longer carried it. All rights to the game had been transferred to a streaming service called DAZN!

I subscribed to it immediately and must say I am very impressed. The fact that I couldn't record a soccer game was a minus, but I found out that they keep the games for up to a week, so recording is not necessary! I also love my new channel since they carry background stories on every team!

Try this Scottish recipe which is the same as mine. Works every time! Yummy! Lazy, haven't done these in ages, just buy them readymade at the shop and haven't had leftover potatoes for a while as well. Will make them come St Andrew's day, this November.

I'm still among the living. Feel like :poop:. Spent so much time in bed yesterday that I have to just sit up on my sofa today. Hurt all over. DD is sick now, too. Texted Sir. His response "Me, too." I feel like Typhoid Mary.

Temp still a steady 97.9. Oxygen still at 98-99%. Guess I'll make it.
Sorry you're so ill, GG. Hope you recover quickly! 💐💐💐

Yum, I wold eat those any time! Thumbs up on that recipe! Here is recipe of my favourite German food: Schupfnudeln. I haven't made them in ages but they are sooo good!

The name sounds familiar but I have never come across it, personally! Here it's Timmie's all the way! I wouldn't buy their regular coffee but like their iced Cappuccino on a hot day! I bemoan the loss of jam filled donuts in favour of cupcakes. Times have changed on me!
La meilleure sélection de cafés de spécialité | Second Cup Café BTW don't know why, but the site is mostly in French nowadays. Nova Scotia and Ottawa were the ones I knew.

Also read somewhere a while back that all Dunkin Donuts shops have closed up and left Canada altogether?

If I recall, also, saw the first Sobey's groceries store in Nova Scotia but way back on Twitter someone had mentioned there was one opened up in Toronto, Ontario?

PS flavoured coffees were popular in the 80s. Hazelnut and Vanilla were two favourites back then. Nowadays it's all flavoured with syrups.

Mmmmmm muffins have closed shops too, what? Those gigantic muffins were soooo good!!!

I am really curious. Why the switch, OED? For reasons of health? Because you didn't like cow's milk for moral, religious or esthetic reasons? If I used Almond Milk with Campbell's Tomato and Rice Soup would it taste the same? Or better?
I had been reading and hearing about how the cows are milked. Sometimes pus and blood gets into the milk. Also cows were known to be given antibiotics. It all just sounded nasty to me, so I stopped. My son is into food stuff and we often discuss certain things about what we ingest, even foods that are permitted for Muslims.

Now I always use almond milk in my tomato soup, which I love with basil. Again, I can't say if it would taste the same or better since I haven't had cow's milk in decades.

@Pepper Yes, my son actually became Muslim a couple of decades before I did. But he's in the Nation of Islam and I'm an "orthodox" Muslim. We have slightly different belief systems but our faith is still based on the teachings of the Quran. FYI, many people don't know this but Muslim Imams and ministers also often teach from the Bible.
