Spanish players furore over bring kissed

I for one, don't care! There seems to be many folks around that really need to get a life if they think this is an issue.

It's about as important and "earth shaking" as the topic how to name bathrooms so as not to offend anybody! GEE!

That's a valid response. But it's easy to brush off since I've never been a woman (which today is a switch one surgical procedure away, apparently). I've not lived in the Spanish culture (weirdly, having worked all over Europe, I've never been to Spain!) As such, I also don't feel comfortable suggesting it isn't a big deal. I just don't know. I can judge based on my own culture and time, and I'd not like to see this around me.

And I am not into football much, more a cricket man. What has annoyed me is the fact that this matter has taken over what was a great and enjoyable event giving women in sport a huge boost, and it gets turned into a "Me To" promotion exercise.

Hm. I don't feel as though it's hurt by the adoption of the "me too" exercise, IF that is truly how they feel. I mean, what is "me too", anyway? Isn't it simply an instance where people who were afraid or unable to express their true feelings are suddenly empowered? I can't be against that.

If I had a concern, and frankly it's beyond my pay grade, it's the fear of a homogeny of cultures. But then again, kissing random women on the lips because I feel it's okay to do so isn't something I can defend.

Strange, playing Postman's Knock was always fun at parties in my younger day.

He is not a nice person, in my opinion, below is a 30-second video
of his excitement, he actually touches himself inappropriately!

Mike.

Believe me as someone who lived in Spain for many years, I can assure you like Italians, the Spanish are very tactile when they're excited especially in Sports.....good god people are talking like he held her down and smooched her. he kissed her on the lips for one second. patted her on the back.... in Congratulations... She's made such a fuss about it he's very unlikely to do it again.
Holly, I agree with your observation. I have done some travel, and it is not unusual for these 'kisses' to happen, as you say.... when they are excited and very happy about something....what is odd is that this player complaining about it! That is where the actual 'story' is I think. She may have some 'history' with this guy....??

In terms of women's football they've made huge strides over the last few years. They won't reach parity with men any time soon, but the sport is certainly on the upswing, and with big numbers.
I find watching men's football boring! I tried, but it just was boring compared to the women's game...

I don't think she has history with him... in the interview later she said she'd only realised that his kissing her ( 2 second peck, my words).. was out of order, when ''the other female players'' told her she should complain... that became very rapidly.. signatures calling for his resignation from every female football team around the western world..

Tis fair enough. Football isn't for all. Football at the top table is sometimes less about football and more about antics. I get that. But I've supported my team since the 70's, so I'm stuck with them. :D

As a teenager at competitive hockey tournaments in Canada, the MVP of the event got to kiss a girl who was handing out the medals.

Quite often I would win the MVP and have to kiss the girl. I was a shy 16 year old so it was tough.

But none of us thought anything squirrely about it...just a quick peck on the lips...etc. I think too much is being made of this innocuous incident and I agree more with @hollydolly's take on all of this.

Spain has a longstanding tradition of sexist gender roles. Machismo describes the concept of masculinity in Spanish men the cultural notion that males should be dominant, aggressive, powerful, and sexual.
It is for this reason they will never completely ban running of the bulls or bullfighting.
In other words complete idiots.

It is not acceptable behaviour and the women of Spain do not appreciate it. That is what counts!
The rule is and always was in Spain and other countries “keep your hands to yourself.”

The fact remains, he is the only one who used the moment to publicly violate a player. Make no mistake…that is what he did… he gripped her head!!
Later on in the dressing room he continued the nonsense telling the players “we will celebrate in Ibiza at the wedding of Jenni and me.”
He has over stepped the boundary.
World sport has rules... he should learn them. In the meantime, he must be sacked!!!

If he had attempted to kiss every single team member on the lips I wonder how the entire team would have responded and would that have heralded serious covid related issues? - either way he is a dickhead imo? I was taught in the 1940's that it was inappropriate to go around kissing all the girls and boys in primary school after matches of any kind?

I saw in-depth coverage. Saw the kiss, the look on her face. Heard him be manly & defiant in response. @davey is right, IMO. "either way he is a dickhead" I've met this guy, no not HIM but I've met this guy a thousand times; every woman has. He can't believe the ship has sailed. The woman in question spoke to the atmosphere he creates, and I believe her like I believe E.Jean Carroll. Men like him ruled the past but it's the present. I saw the protests of Spanish women in the streets and I believe them.

There's a great effort in Western society to restore regression. Oh how I wish I could see the future.

She was quite happy at the time, confirmed she was happy at the time, and quite obviously she was got at by the "Me Too" Woke brigade after the event and was lent on and made to feel guilty. Well done, it has trashed what was a great event.
Plus I have little love for the guy, not the peck on lips but the equipment grab antics which was accompanied by much laughter as it looked like part of a broadcast. Then what was the "I am getting married to her" comment about, strange thing to say about a person you do not know?
