.......as deadly wildfires – the largest ever recorded in the European Union – rage across the country.

Wildfires in Mount Parnitha, north of the Greek capital Athens, are still out of control Friday, with more forest destroyed overnight.

Greek police have made 79 arson related arrests, Greek government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis told public broadcaster EPT Friday.

“What is happening is not just impermissible, but obscene and criminal,” Greek Climate Crisis Minister Vassilis Kikilias said in a statement.

“You are committing a crime against the country. You will not be spared. We will find you and you will be held accountable in Justice,” Kikilas added.

With more than 73,000 hectares burned, the fires in Alexandroupolis are officially the largest wildfires ever recorded in the European Union, according to EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič.

It is not likely someone doing it to their country, but outsiders.
I don't know about Greece, but many governments and similar organizations have a history of creating problems and then blaming their critics, as a means of casting blame elsewhere, while gaining more power and control. Without naming names, there's one well known powerful government in particular that has a routine and sordid history of false flag attacks <-- not only in it's own country but also around the rest of the world.

my greek odyssey

we are still sharing this program in Oz and each time I watch it I am reminded of a time gone bye. A magic wonderland where history has not stopped but still continues - but a land of peace and contentment and quiet with good food and drink and welcomes. How sad so sad - wot sorta mad mad world do we live in - maybe it is the end times ?

It happens in Spain too... last year it was horrendous... and it wasn't outsiders it was local people... just arsonists is all I can think of the reason why.....at least unlike the Greek fires, as far as I know, no-one died in the Spanish fires...last year..

When my DD lived in the mountains, they were pedantic about anyone smoking anywhere near their property... and during the wildfires.. my DD's partner, would rush to help the Bomberos..on the other side of the mountain range where he would rescue the animals, who were usually tied up outside the home.. and just left to their own devices when the people escaped the fires ..
