Gardening in 2023

This is so spectacular. You two look like shrunken humans in a giant Beautiful garden.
I came here to post a picture of a small little sunflower 🌻 and I’m embarrassed to post it now. 😂

Here’s my silly photo.

My wife would appreciate your sunflower. She tells a story of going to a store where one could by seeds by the pound before she was five. She got a couples cents worth, grew at least on whopper, harvested the seed and sold some back to the store. She has photos her parents took and made at least one weaving about it which is in this show. But I’ll have to ask her which one it is.

My Lycoris flowers are booming everywhere! I (literally) have several thousand plants, each plant has 3-9 flowers! I've been outside taking pictures. Of course, the camera doesn't look as nice as seeing them in person. Some of these pictures are from this morning, some from last week, and others are from previous years.....

They were one of my Dad's favorite flowers! Notice how they don't have any leaves? For this reason they are also called Naked Lilies. (note: naked ladies is a different flower)

I've spent years dividing and planting them everywhere. They line the trails through the woods and around the fields. They are by the house, the barn, and along with driveway......they are everywhere!
I’ve never seen anything like these pretty pink flowers. They truly are striking. A perfect border flower. You’re is Australia, aren’t you?

I suppose sunflowers are somewhat nostalgic. Most of us have stories about having grown them or had neighbours who grew them. Watching the birds eating the seeds right off the flower is really quite exciting.

When I was in grade 2 we did a school play with a song in it about sunflowers. I still sing it to this day , since it’s a such a cheerful tune.

🎶 We are sunny sunflowers 🌻
🌻 Sunny, Sunny sunflowers 🎶
🎶 Plucked from Amy’s garden yesterday 🌻😁

I had to hear that and found this.

No Patty, I'm in Arkansas, USA
I’m sorry. I’ve gotten you mixed up with Trish.
There’s no way you’d be getting the weather she was getting and sure enough I just looked at her profile and she’s from Australia. They were having their winter while most of were enjoying the summer.

You must have had some high temperatures this past summer living that far south. How has it been this last summer?

Hot, hot, hot....with hefty dose of humidity!!! I'm used to the heat, I even like it! But we had way too much rain, that humidity has got to go!!!! Today we are back into full summer, but at least it's only in the upper 80's. I'm not sure what the dew point is, but it's sweltering every time step outside!

It’s good that you got rain. We got quite a bit of rain throughout the summer also but it only ever went up to 80 degrees and only a couple of times.

For some reason I thought Arkansas would be super hot & dry.

Well, normally we are. The high temps hover around 100°-110°F, with 14-12 inch of rain per month. This year we had close to 8 inches of rain in July!!!☂️

100 to 110 degree. Good Lord.😱
With 14 to 12 inches of rain a month. Wouldn’t that make July an extra dry month?
Im confused but I’m generally confused these days .

Oh, my!!!! No! That was a typo on my part!! That should have read 1/4-1/2 inches of rain!!! We are very dry in the summer! Sorry for that confusion!

Spring is usually our rainy season, then it drys up like a desert! 🏜️

Well that makes much more sense then.
I hope the rest of your summer was wonderful.

Yes Mark in the middle of England close to Robin Hood Country .

Having only been there once I'd never be able to decide which part. But I noticed in a lot of gardens the fences were something like yours which to my yankee eye and with my anglophile tendencies I find charming. Ours tend to be chain link or simple wood fence.

Well since you went to all the trouble of sharing a video I'll do the same. The first I've shared here before. It was taken three years ago in April.

The second one was taken in the same general area of the garden, also three years ago but later in the season. By now the Beshornaria "Flamingo Glow" had finished and I'd begun cutting back the mother plant to give the pups room in the sun. Also the big Bromeliad was in bloom after quite a few years. It was fascinating to watch it unfold.
