Our late Queen Elizabeth Anniversary of her Death

I am a US citizen, born in 1954. So, She was the only of your monarchs I was ever aware of. May she still be resting in peace.
Slightly OT..when I was young, I had a bit of a crush on Charles.
yes she became queen when her father the King died in 1952..she was 25 then... and she was crowned in the Coronation in '53.. so for anyone born from 1950 onwards, she's always been in the world... and always been the Queen of England, Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland... and 32 other Independent countries ( The commonwealth)

ETA...even my mum and Dad had always known Elizabeth.. because she was Princess Elizabeth the daughter of the king when they were kids, .. my father and her were born a week apart, and my mother was born when Princess Elizabeth was 8 years old.. so both of them had never known a world without Princess and then Queen Elizabeth... and both my parents died before her

During Queen Elizabeth's 70-year reign, republican rumblings surfaced on occasion, but the affection and respect she enjoyed meant that the monarchy would survive. Now, with her death and the accession of her son Charles, even devout Monarchists have misgivings about a system that comes from birthright. Has the death of a very popular Monarch put the institution in jeopardy? Maybe not, but whilst petulant Charles will never come near to the reverence his mother enjoyed, it might just be Charles' wife that turned the tide of popularity for the Monarchy.

Did you know that The Treason Felony Act of 1848, prohibits the advocacy of a republic in print? The penalty for such advocacy, even if the republic is to be set up by peaceful means, is lifetime imprisonment. This Act remains in force in the United Kingdom.

When it takes a law to deal with dissent the writing might not be allowed in print, but it's certainly on the wall. So while today is the day of remembrance for a much loved Monarch, one even respected by those of a different view point, I would advise King Charles to look up another date. January 30th 1649. His name was Charles too.

She did... wheen she and Philip had been married a long time.. people were swooning over Diana, and then Catherine, and Philip sprang to the Queens defence and said on more than one occasion, that the Queen was so beautiful in her youth , that she looked better than most Hollywood film stars
Thats what my dad said about my mother when he first met her, that she was the most beautiful Redhead he had seen.

I was overwhelmed when I heard she'd passed. I'd lost hubby end of April. I was in deep mourning already, so it was double whammy.

Also, I'd expected she'd reached at least her 100s in 2026, as her mother, Elizabeth The Queen Mother, had reached nearly 102. However, losing her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, might have been the trigger for her.

She's always been my Queen and it's hard to accept that she's gone. Meanwhile, many of us hoped that Prince William and Catherine would have received it. However, there's still a real possibility of this taking place in our lifetime.

The Diana/Charles saga and the Camilla affairs, it's all in shambles and people have long memories...

RIP HM Queen Elizabeth II! We can't believe you'd ever leave us...

Beautiful tributes Hollydolly, and also from others here. I too can't believe it has been a year. Elizabeth is the only British royalty I have been familiar with my entire life. Condolences to all who still feel extreme sadness for her death.🙏She was a remarkable lady🪷
