Anyone read Cozy Mysteries?

I do enjoy throwing a cozy into the mix to take a break from the heavier reading. I loved the Cat Who series by Lillian Jackson Braun. If you come from a church music background, choir singer etc., there's a guy named Mark Schweizer that wrote a fun series of liturgical mysteries; The Alto Wore Tweed, the Baritone Wore Chiffon, The Tenor Wore Tapshoes, etc.

Kind of same here, just too much on my plate to read any books these days. I'm reading a page, but my mind focuses on other things on my to-do list 😂😂😂.

Regarding "Mysteries" and "Drama Series", daughter and I just love them. Granted these are TV series, but they're in the same style. It was really a good find this morning on Disney+. Whoa and Wow!

Here's what we've found and will be watching:

Currently watching: True Lies
Found and added to watchlist:
Finder
The Glades
Siren
Hardy Boys (new remake)
Only Murders in the Building

We both like this style of programs and between 2017 and 2022, we were in mourning, firstly for our son and secondly, hubby. Whatever we watched at that time was just a blur.

Neither have we found any new book series lately. Occasionally go back to Agatha Christie's collection, but as we're trying to fix a couple of problems on our own, distraction is required to help us push through and move forward.

It's difficult to do a simple thing as reading a book when dealing with annoying companies who thinks that because we've moved into a new place, we're now responsible for someone else's debts. Phew! Sorry... Ranting🙃

I’m learning that at times in life, distraction is a welcome blessing that I embrace. 😊

I have seen them down in our community book shelf. Folks give and take books. I think when I am ready to start a new read, I will check one out
It seems to me that they vary a lot, and any individual reader might like some of them, and not like others by different authors.

Perhaps it's a good thing, for anyone to keep in mind,
to not give up on the entire category, if we don't enjoy one or another, or even some of them, that we give a try.

This is a great thread. I have just discovered cozy mysteries. I did not keep up with listing the authors you suggested for a few minutes. I’ll check availability today. Thank you all for suggestions and comments.

I loved the series on Acorn, especially Queens of Mystery (still waiting for season 3!) and they have a new series just starting. Definitely recommend the service!

This is a GREAT message. Cozy mysteries come in all flavors, just keep trying until you find one you love.

Here's a few of my favorite series if anyone is looking for something new:

Kathy Daley

Tess & Tilly - Set in Montana, Tess and her dog, Tilly deliver mail and solve mysteries, Great small town feel

Inn at Holiday Bay - Set in New England, Abby loses her husband and infant son to a car accident, moves across the country to an old mansion she bought to turn into a Bed and Breakfast. Small town feel

Diana Xarissa

Aunt Bessie
- Bessie is "late middle aged" and lives on the Isle of Man in the Irish sea. Think Murder She Wrote.
Aunt Bessie Cold Case Mysteries - the sequel series to Aunt Bessie

Isle of Man Ghostly Cozy - Fenella inherits her great aunt's estate and moves to the Isle of Man

Markham Sisters Mysteries - 2 sisters retire from school teaching and open a bed and breakfast. Novella length no-murder mysteries

Sofie Kelly

Jennifer Hawkins

Chatty Corgi Mysteries
- Emma gives up her job in London to move to a seaside English village to open a tea shop. With her talking Corgi, Oliver,

Ellery Adams

Secret, Book and Scone Society
- If you love strong woman characters, touching stories, great plots and a touch of paranormal, this is a great series.

Linda Stratmann

Mina Scarletti series
- Set in the early 20th century, Mina is a clever woman who investigates spiritualists.

Paranormal:

Angie Fox

Southern Ghost Hunter
- Verity accidentally caused the ghost of gangster Frankie the German to be bound to her, so she takes him along to solve mysteries. A bit of mild scare, lots of tension and great plots.

Technically cozy, but a little grittier:

Aaron Elkins

Gideon Oliver series
- Gideon is a forensic anthropologist and seems to find mysteries wherever he goes. Love the plots in this series!

Elly Griffiths

Ruth Galloway
- Anthropologist Ruth consults with the police. If you love great plots and characters so intertwined you can't wait for the next book, this is your jam.

This series sound really good, NS; thanks for suggesting. And it must be really popular; even though the 1st book in the series, Crossing Places, has been out for over 10 years, there's a wait list for it both at my local library and a bookswap site I use, lol.

It's a great series, I'm so invested in the characters I can't bring myself to read the latest because I hear she's taking a break from it waaaah

Can't recommend it enough, though. Hope you enjoy it!

Have you tried books on tape? Our state library is free. Guess they are now called audiobooks. You can get a card through your local library. I’m sorry this pleasure is being denied to you.
