What are you doing today 2023

Well, I'm going to the bank monday and if they cannot
get me access again I will withdraw everything and go
to another bank.....grrrrrrrrr
That's precisely what I would do in the same situation... just remember the problem it would be if we were now a cashless society.

This is why it's important that we use cash for some purchases regularly, because once you cant. you and your money are totally at the mercy of the banks

Hello ...
Here is the end of my 'what to do' story.
I am staying where I am and will just spend for my comfort as I require it.
No more scrimping and scraping.
I will keep my mouth shut about lumpy floor and cover with thick carpet.

We got there at appointed time and the minute I stepped in the door I knew it was a no no.
We were directed to restaurant and seated at table with a very charming gentleman age 96 and a lady of uncertain age who did not want to talk. Wheelchairs, walkers every where, mine included. Chatter, chatter. With hearing aids a disaster.

The food was good .
Two course breakfast, three course lunch and dinner.....way too much food for me.
Meals served at 8am, 12.30pm and dinner at 5.30pm. There is only one serving so you have to be there at specified times. I could not handle that. It is not like a restaurant where you can wander in at any time. I am told by other people I know in moderate retirement homes that this is the way. There is a 24 hour coffee shop if you are gasping for a coffee. Or, you can make it for yourself in your tiny kitchenette. They allow a kettle and microwave. There is a fridge.

Brochure says utilities included ... not all of the. Telephone and TV is available for basic hook up. No recording or wifi . That would be more cost for me to have it done and pay every month.

I could go on with more negative stuff but I won't.

It was not all negative and people in general in the lounge afterwards seemed to be content but I know that life style is not for me. I like people and am normally a cheery upbeat person but I do like my own company and privacy.
I really do not want to eat Eggs Benedict at 8am. with three other people at table

My friend ,who is somewhat younger did not say much until we got in to her car when she said...
YOU will never live there and was in complete agreement with my comments.
She knows me well.

So peeps thats most of the story and I hope it will give some of you some insight as to what lies ahead.
If you have pots of money no problem.
There are retirement homes here where you can live like a king or queen.
bye for now wave.jpg

I'm in agreement with you Mizmo.. despite being 25 years younger than you, I too would opt for my own home over something as you describe.

Your far too independent to want to feel you're at the mercy of rules and regulations in your home

Actually I feel a lot easier in my mind now.
After today's events I know what route to take . I think I always knew it but had to prove it to myself.
Silly old me.🙃

Hope this does not bore you but it is a different day for me...a day of decision.

Today….
I have an appointment to tour a senior retirement residence. A friend is accompanying me and of course lunch is included in tour. It is not what I want to do as these homes are ridiculously priced and the style of living does not really appeal to me but I have to give it a shot.

I and my neighbours have been and still are going through h*ll with noise and disruption due to building renovations and still more to come. That and the fact that my old vinyl floor is bumpy here and there and I have stumbled a few times. If I complain to management they have the right to evict me to replace the floor so mums the word and care in walking. I would have to move out completely and find another apartment. Duh!

Also, lately I have been feeling that ‘keeping house’ and light cooking is beginning to tire me more and of course I still have all the body problems which at my age will never get any better. Cleaning lady not needed every day but would be nice to have my meals prepared for me etc., etc., Some of you nearing my age know what I mean.
A daily lady would be nice for general work

So, I looked at my savings and realized that I should be spending them to make my life easier rather than have them sitting there …for what.
That is the question I asked myself - For What??.

I need to spend it now to make my life more comfortable

Not enough of them to last me indefinitely in a residence but maybe for a couple of years depending on cost.
Of course, I could pop my clogs anytime but there is no guarantee on that. If I live beyond it will have to be Govt. old age home.
More duhs !!!

Well, I am still mulling over this brain storm but after visit and some more thought plus friend’s viewpoint ( she is nearing the same stage in her life) and perhaps some forum friends I hopefully will get it settled one way or another.

Will keep you posted on my thoughts…may be useful for others eh!

I totally understand where you’re coming from…..it is a major decision on your part.
I personally think a move like this will relieve a lot of mental and physical stress for you.
You must enjoy your golden years, and if this is how, go for it.
Your hard earned equity is for you to enjoy……you can’t take it with you.
Hope for the very best for you in your decision. 🌸🌸🌸.

I put my new storage shelving together and stocked it, taking care to use items that will free up maximum space elsewhere. I have a couple more spaces to fill on the shelves. I purged and rearranged my storage closet again for the second time this year. Now there is more walk in/standing space, which comes in handy when reaching for items up top and towards the back (especially for short me).

The space the Aquafina bag, which has various bags to be used for disposal purposes, will be replaced by a bundle of TP soon. We like to make sure to keep at least 30 rolls in the house. Paper towels are behind the TP and a couple are under my kitchen cabinets. I'll have to get creative with space the next time we buy a bundle of paper towels.

Wow Bob! I read one of your posts where you downplayed your creative abilities but this proves that you are quite talented.
... and your comment just proves you are a sweet kindhearted soul. As with your wonderful music, every time you do something, you learn a little bit more about the craft. It's the creative process that is the most fun. I think if you love doing anything, it reflects in the finished work. But thank you.

You're welcome and Thank YOU so much❣️ You are right about the creative process and how it continues to evolve. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work. 😊

Well it's Very hot today, and sunny . 🌞 💥 🌞 .. tomorrow is apparently going to be cloudy but still hot......o really I should take myself out.. but I'm feeling lazy cu I'm not sleeping due to the heat...

It was 90 deg in my bedroom last night even with the fan on..and that's having had the blinds closed all day to keep the heat out

It's past mid-day now..I suspect a lot of people have gone to the beach and the motorways will be chocked full.. so if I do go out it'll be better if I stay inland...

Have a lovely day folks..🥰

@OneEyedDiva if you don't mind that it's on Amazon, you should check out these solid, easy-to-build light solutions for your closets

SONGMICS

We've done double purchases back in late 2019 for our daughter's room. We've got a set of just shelving for our own room at the time.

They're inexpensive, solid both metal and fibrous sheets. I recommend them with confidence 👍

We're into our fifth year now and still no problems to report.

Too hot to do anything physical other than clearing the clothesline and chilling in front of JML Chillmax unit 😂. The missing groceries can wait, enough food for about a month, yes I bulk buy. We can work round for meals from missing items.

Breakfast bit boring, our usual, orange juice and coffee. Only difference, coffee got ice cubes in it, yup was that hot already.

Lunch was toasted sandwiches with new (had to try it after all these years) Grey Poupon mustard, verdict nice. With that lovely pack of roast beef trimmings with lettuce and a soup tin. Added a funky play, those cheese sticks which you can peel. Appealing to the kid in us eheheh.

Dinner's Mexican food just not the end product yet, but it'll include beef...

Supposed to go to a shelter today with son/grandson. Son woke up not feeling well, so I'm not sure if they are coming.

Exactly three months since losing Buffy. Feels weird to look at others? Am I too sentimental? I still love her so much.

So, so far don't know what I'm doing today. Don't worry, I'll take a shower regardless :ROFLMAO:

Shower at night aka before bed, you'll sleep like a baby, I know we did. 🚿🚿🚿

Today I do absolutely nothing.
The balcony concrete drilling is over and other work on them quieter and bearable.
This is a pic of corner of my balcony two days ago.
When I got home yesterday it had been cleaned up however still more work needed before new railings go in

I have lots of good TV stuff recorded to catch up with so will be spending it in my favourite way.

Hope you all have the best day possible in whatever your plans.

Meeting up with our son and his girlfriend to watch our College football team play another game.
Our Watchsite will be filled with fans of our team and we are going on our 12th year meeting there.
A sign on the door states: 'This is a Nebraska Huskers Watchsite today, and all TV's are tuned to
this game'.

We will finalize what Game members will be traveling to as a group.
Every year we visit a different city and have a ton of fun.

@Mizmo, I agree with your decision about not going to assisted living. At least not now.

My experience of AL (Mom and FIL were in different ones toward the very ends of their lives) is that it's a great solution for people who can no longer live on their own due to cognitive erosion and/or serious physical challenges they can't manage on their own.

Experience being a good teacher, we realized in retrospect that my mother would have been well served to have moved there a year or two earlier, but unfortunately she was terrified at the prospect and we were unfamiliar with ALs so we put it off too long.

My FIL thrived in his. Made friends and even had a very nice GF for a while.

By my reckoning, ALs aren't retirement homes for the fully able-minded who can manage their own care.
