it's forecast to be a Category 5 storm

Lee currently has maximum sustained winds of 130 mph — making it a Category 4 storm — and is over open water, following a west-northwest path that will likely see its center pass north of the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico, the National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory.

Lee roared to major hurricane status on Thursday, with its maximum sustained winds increasing from 105 mph at 11 a.m.

All the models agree on a sharp turn to the north in 5 days. While the models aren't in complete agreement thereafter... there is a remote chance of New England, but very remote, at this time. It will also lose steam late this weekend and then to Category 3, after passing Bermuda, and likely further turning northeast.

What has been remarkable, is the models have agreed and maintained their track from 3 days ago thru next Tuesday.

The media does need to sensationalize all this for clicks/views revenue.

Here is the Accuweather forecast from 8 hours ago. Based on current circumstances, it looks as if Hurricane Lee may miss the Southeast coast due to steering currents, but it's anybody's guess as to whether it will impact the Northeast and Canada.

We've endured an excruciatingly hot few months in TX and are leaving on a cruise out of Quebec City next Friday. Looks like the Canadian Maritimes may be impacted by wind and rain so it should be a fun time. :( Anyway, I will be grateful if it doesn't hit the US as a major hurricane.

I hope it's safe up there for your cruise and have fun, Doug!

I was on the beach this morning. Yellow Flag meant water was safe. Had to grab Blu's leash to keep him from lifting his leg on the children's sandcastles they made yesterday :giggle: The temperature of the water was surprisingly cool. Not cold but not like warm bath water like it was a week ago.

I read yesterday that hurricanes intensify as they suck up the warm water and you can actually feel that the water is cooler. Remembering that when I touched the cool water this morning after feeling the warm water before was kinda' creepy.

But I looked out over to the horizon (clear skies this morning) and as far left and right as I could see and I saw nothing in the way of a storm coming...very few wispy clouds.

Now just as I typed this a shadow came over my workspace. I looked out the window and the clouds are rolling in here and there. The ocean is a gray color now at Noon as opposed to the pretty blue color just after Sunrise this morning around 7:30am. It's humid but not much more than this morning.

Interesting Lara. I like reading your observations!

We may get some action up here in CT. I hear they don't think Lee will make landfall anywhere, but there will be wind and rain along some of the east coast.
