In the Uk unlike the USA we don't restore vintage items very much, so that they're shown in pristine condition. Rather they're shown as they would be when they were last used...(y)

here at the Vintage transport museum, the concentrate on mostly transport and related items from the late 1700's to the early 1900's...

This was my visit yesterday...

Mark Twain, in his book Roughing It, describes what it was like to cross the United States in a stagecoach prior to the building of a transcontinental railroad. It took about a week. The passengers had to sit on top of the mail that had to be taken. And they were covered in dust when they stepped out at Pony Express rest stops.

even in London passengers were covered in dust as well...which is why the higher classes got riding inside.. and always wore hats and coats even then..to protect theslves.. the drivers always wore Duster coats... :)

In a nearby town from where I live there was a steam engine train that you could take a ride on. It was summertime so the windows were down in the passenger cars. I was surprised at how much debris was landing on my lap from the smoke stack ahead of us.

Of course I wasn't wearing any protective clothing. šŸ™‚

This buggy was one of a few which the public can step into...

this was the inside, very tiny.. 2 average size people in the UK now, would be hard pressed to sit opposite each other.. the seats were about 3 feet wide and about 12 inches deep..

Fantastic photos, Holly! Thank you for posting them.:D

So much to look at. Too much for one visit, for me.
I plan to come back to the museum, several times!;)

Imagine all of the different types of craftsmen and designers, the large amount of hours of labor to produce these, each vehicle made for its own purpose,
and the great numbers of people of many different specialties, that did parts of the work, on those various types of vehicles.

And then, imagine all of the people who rode on them, and who used them, for many, many countless trips and purposes.
Fascinating.

It is also interesting how they have displayed them, in the space they have, there now.
Also interesting, are the comments and info you gave.

And again, these are excellent pictures! To give us the most of the experience that we could have, without being able to go there in person, each ourselves.
(Or on a fun SF group trip,
or each of us, in turn, going there with you! :giggle::geek::ROFLMAO:)

Did I forget to mention in my above post,
the wonderful artists, involved as well!
:giggle::LOL:🤩🤩🤩
