The Sarah Sharif case is so confusing

This case is in the UK headlines, in and out of focus.

Is it just me but I simply cannot work out what this is all about. Apparently a child died, several family members fled to Pakistan, no idea where the parents are, much chasing there, now they have returned to the UK and been arrested. There are siblings but where they are is anyone's guess. The mother is making statements but where is she and was she when whatever it is happened? P

Either I am losing my faculties or this is such confused reporting that I have no idea what is going on.
Can anyone explain simply please because I am not that bright!

Rose, the siblings were found almost a week ago. Five of them with the grandfather in Pakistan.. The father and the stepmother elsewhere. To flush them out of their hiding place, Pakistani police arrested every member of their family..brother & sisters etc...so they came out, and have flown back to the UK to stand trial for the murder of their 10 year old beautiful little girl who was found dead, covered in bruises or to explain how she died

The back story for everyone else..is that the 10 year old was already known to authorities . She lived in a home with her father, mother, Uncle and 5 siblings. The day before neighbours alerted the police to her body.. the whole household up sticks and flew to Pakistan... and went into hiding. The police discovered little Sarahs body and an international manhunt went out for the Father, stepmother & uncle. They questioned the grandfather in Pakistan who refused to reveal their whereabouts, and said that the uncle told him the child died falling downstairs.

What's not clear is why Sarah's mother who is Polish was not more involved in her life

I think we often feel entitled to know more details than we really do. This poor girl died, and that requires an explanation. It is not normal for 10 year olds to die, and the bruises point to foul play. And nothing says "guilty" like booking a plane ticket and heading to Pakistan to avoid capture.

But I don't think the general public need to know every detail. Some of it is going to be pretty horrific, I think I'd rather not know.

Thanks that is somewhat clearer. What a complex case with mysterious aspects. The police certainly have their work cutout.

I know what you mean but the story is so puzzling with so much missing. Leaving a child dead or dying is appalling. I hope all concerned are brought to justice.

The mother is a big mystery. Where on earth is she and why?

I admit, I don't really think about the mother. So many families today, let along tragic stories, are prefaced by the term "broken family". It's common for the mother to be out of the picture, or the father to be nowhere to be seen. For me the focus remains on the victim, the girl. I think we can be rest assured they'll be brought to justice.

On another note, and this may not be relevant here but I thought I'd mention it, I spent some time in India. Getting there was a real nuisance. As a Brit, you can't just book a flight and go there, you have to get special visas, and those visas can take weeks and weeks to get. If I wanted to fly to Pakistan today, I simply wouldn't be allowed to do it, it would have to be planned well in advance. Even then, they're short term stays (relatively). It's more complex than, say, getting a tourist Visa for the US. The father would have had a Pakistani passport, so wouldn't have had the restriction.

I agree. Running off to Pakistan and leaving a dead kid is going to be hard to explain to a jury. Also, lurid details about a crime don't help solve the crime. Police do not have to disclose all evidence or information, because what may be needed for arrest is different for getting a conviction. The police have no obligation to share information, because someone is curious or nosy. Plus, the accused will face a public trial, where the evidence will be presented in open court.

...and leaving the child dead, alone in the house in England... ... if as they say an accident occurred, then the normal thing would be to call an ambulance and let it be dealt with from there... you don't leave a dead child, leave your job as a cab driver, pack up 5 children, a brother of the girls father and a step-mother and go into hiding in Pakistan unless you're guilty of something serious..

I agree we don't need to know all of what occurred, but we do need to know 1..who killed her.. 2 why?... and 3, enough that people who might be thinking of killing a child are put off the idea because they will face the same fate..meted out by the courts..

The mother is not missing, she never was. She's been talking to the police and the media since they found her daughters' body. She is Polish, she was married to the girls' father.. for 7 yaers.... she's demanding to know the answers from her ex husband as to how her daughter died.

Is the child in beauty pageants. She’s wearing lots of makeup for a 10 year old.
She's Pakistani.. and they like Indians dress up and put make-up on the children for certain ceremonies, and I would imagine that's when that photo was taken..
the father, the father's brother, and the step-mother have now been arrested on suspicion of murder...

This is little Sarah on a normal day..

Such a beautiful little girl. That probably makes sense. It’s not anywhere as elaborate as I see around here. It just reminded me of the makeup on JonBenet Ramsay.

A very sad event. Whoever did it, also destroyed the lives of the family they dragged away with them.

Thank you for that, It never seems to amaze me how much information is cut out from the news in different countries.

I know - that photo is so strange! I am perplexed.

Who on earth did what to the child and why did they all run away and where is her mother? Who found the body?
Rose why do you keep asking where the mother is?... I've aready addressed that... her mother has never been hidden... her mother has been at the front of the enquiries ever since they began... there's nothing strange about a little Pakistani/Indian girl dressed up for an occasion..why should you think so ?..the Father, Stepmother and Uncle have all been charged with her murder.

Oh ok. Just me being dizzy!

I made a huge mistake by reading about this case last night. As a result, I could not sleep and when I dropped off had a dreadful nightmare. Woke up in tears and so glad my husband was beside me.
I have a suspicion of what might have happened to this beautiful child and why she was killed. God bless her sweet soul.
The truth will come out and these monsters will be punished.

Oh dear, it is so awful to think about. Poor little girl. They who hurt her must be punished to the full. Hell awaits them too, I am certain.

I am confused too. I kept seeing this photo now and then on the BBC. I thought it was some sort of doll. Now, I'm hearing that this is/was a real person. Boy am I confused. Is it me or is it the type of media we have out there? The shining light on the face sure makes her look like some sort of doll?

I have little doubt that this photo was taken of this 10 year old at a Pakistani occasion of some type. It's very normal for children to be dressed in finery and wearing make-up at Pakistani or Indian Functions etc..

This is her typical look

Moments ago:

Urfan Sharif, 43, Sara's father, is sentenced to life in prison for the torture & her murder. He must serve a minimum of 40 years.

Her stepmother, Beinash Batool, 30, is also given a life sentence for her murder, with a minimum term of 33 years.

Faisal Malik, 29, Sara's uncle, receives a jail sentence of 16 years for causing or allowing the death of a child.

I won't post here the distressing details of the case or the judge's extensive remarks prior to sentencing. No doubt more of those details will be all over internet news sights very soon.

I can't read the details, I can't bear it.

So glad they sadists are jailed for life, I would hang them.
they have't exactly been jailed for life..he got 40 years ( the father) the stepmother got 33 years, and the fathers' brother got 16... with a third off as is standard... they'll still be realtively young when they're released..
