September is Small Business Month...shop locally...

Is there a local, small business you prefer and why?

There's a local independent bookstore that I like. They carry some unique items, that they themselves choose.

It is owned by the employees;
So they are all extremely helpful about anything, and and very appreciative of everyone, and flexible about policies.

It's always a pleasant experience to interact with them.

My local bulk food store. I've been going there for years & have watched her grow. She just added a small meat counter with fresh & deli meats/cheeses along with a fridge with various foods she makes there & is pre-packaged. The butcher shop across the street from her closed for retail & went wholesale. She now sells some of products they used too, although they quit making some items 😢.

For example, the price on her vanilla paste is known brand & half of the price of a high-end local grocery store in the southern half of our county. It's amazing how the bigger stores who can buy in bigger bulk has higher prices. I also know all of her spices are fresh & not sitting on shelves for long periods of time. She will also special order things for you as long as she can get them.

The other local business I always go to is the feed store. It's family owned & the employees they have know their products.

My paycheck from the county came from taxes. I only feel it's right to pay the people back buy spending & buying locally as much as I can.

Oh yes, that's another wonderful part of shopping at this sort of store!(y)
They also know which of the things we'd like, they can or cannot order or get.
Farm stands are another type of local business, that is direct, and one can communicate with them about the foods, freshness, methods of growing, uses, etc.

Nice thread topic too, @Jace
