Are you getting your vaccines this year?

I plan to get both but not sure about the timing. I'd definitely prefer to get the new updated covid vaccine that includes the latest variant. I used to get the flu shot early in the fall but my doctor said that since the height of flu season is in the early spring that it is better to wait a little while on the flu shot so the effectiveness will still be high.

When I was younger I didn't always get the flu shot, but then my cousin died from the flu and I got really bad cases two years in a row, and since then I've gone in for it every year, even the year that they were low on doses and recommended only the more-at-risk people to get it.

I got the flu jab this morning but no RES or new Covid vaccine available through Kaiser at least in the East Bay. Waiting around for them to open I joked with the others waiting that I wanted as many vaccines as possible so that I won't come down with autism.

Current Risk Assessment

Based on what CDC knows now, existing tests used to detect and medications used to treat COVID-19 appear to be effective with this variant. BA.2.86 may be more capable of causing infection in people who have previously had COVID-19 or who have received COVID-19 vaccines. Scientists are evaluating the effectiveness of the forthcoming, updated COVID-19 vaccine. CDC’s current assessment is that this updated vaccine will be effective at reducing severe disease and hospitalization. At this point, there is no evidence that this variant is causing more severe illness. That assessment may change as additional scientific data are developed. CDC will share more as we know more.

So, I now have more of a chance of getting Covid because I had a previous vaccine for Covid.
You can’t make this stuff up.

No, it doesn't say that. At least in what you posted. You always had a risk, the risk may be higher. It doesn't say that it's an increased risk over being non vaccinated, nor does it say what the amount of increase is.

We'll probably get the flu and covid shots because my wife is possibly going to have cataract surgery soon. Mostly because we'll be spending extra time in medical facilities.

We had eye doctor appts last week, and the only place we were was at home. Within 48 hours I came down with a very inconvenient cold or cold like symptoms. Tested neg for covid. I was ok in 2 days, which is fairly typical for me, my wife got sick within 36 after I had symptoms and she still has it, now going on the 4th day. She's miserable, but nothing of major concern.

I was told yesterday that Covid shots were now available at my nearest CVS Pharmacy. Walmart didn't have them a week ago. Maybe they do now. I get my shots at Walmart, where I pickup prescriptions, and they keep all my records on file in one place, so I always return there for flu, tetanus, Covid, etc shots, and I don't have to keep track. But I will get my shingles vaccination at Costco next month when I'm in the area. I can save $80 on the two shots that way.

I don't know why my doctor sends me someplace else to get these things. Clinics and doctors used to be the main source for this stuff.

Did you miss the part after the word “or”?

It doesn't actually say "more capable than people who haven't had Covid." It just says more capable.

My interpretation: Even those who've previously had Covid or been vaccinated are more likely to be infected with this strain than they were with previous variants, post Covid or vaccine.

If I never had Covid, and had the vaccine, I would be in a better position if I never had the vaccine with the New variant.
