I can only dream of a huge fridge like that. When we built, we allowed room for the small all-fridge. It was wonderful until it quit and they quit making them. All that fits is a smaller fridge/freezer.

Lately I‘ve seen suggestions for storing fruit in mason jars. Why is this superior to other containers that are equally well sealed. Or is it just trendy like many things.

I don't know, but many people prefer glass again these days.

I like storing everything in glass if I can. But I'm curious if the cleaned fruit in glass last longer or just looks good? Any ideas?

My french door refrigerator has two large crispers that holds a lot w/an adjustment for humidity in them too. It keeps thing pretty good. But I always will look for other ideas for storage.

OK, I found this link about berries & storing in jars vs. original container w/paper towel:

Storing Your Berries Like This Will Make Them Last Four Times Longer
I never store fruit in the fridge unless it's cut up. The cold breaks it down pretty much like a cold-snap will while it's on the tree or bush or vine.

That's what my mom told me, anyway. And I've noticed fruit will rot fast after you take it out of cold storage.

Anyway, as to the topic; I'm a bit obsessed with organization. I really like that thing she stores stalk veggies in.

I use a lot of mason jars because they are sturdy & at a decent price. Half-gallons to store my oatmeal, small pasta, etc. Wide mouth quarts for rice, lentils, sun-dried tomatoes, bell peppers & other things like those. My coffee that I keep on the counter is stored in amber quart mason jars so the light doesn't hurt them. I'm still trying to find containers (want to see them first) at the store that are long enough for my spaghetti. I ended up with more space in my pantry doing this rather than storing in the original boxes. In my fridge I use the clear plastic boxes that Aldi had for storing things which work out real well.

I liked the multi-bottle opener the kitchen gadget video. My kitchen tools have to be multi purpose because I don't have a lot of space. One of my favorite space saving item is my Kitchen Aid stand mixer as it does different job with the attachments I have, i.e. meat grinder, sausage stuffer, bread dough hook, whisk, batter hook, etc.

For storing lemons, I found out I can keep them a real long time in a plastic bag. Most other fruit I keep on the counter after they're washed.

@Murrmurr, I'm like you on organization, kitchen or otherwise.

@Jules, I like the Rubbermaid square glass containers ( 1/2 C, 2 C, 3C) with a rubber lid that seals tight when you push down on them for leftovers. To store empty, they stack neatly & the lids click together so they don't fall all over. I originally got them for my husband to take leftovers in to work to reheat in the microwave with a paper plate over them. I don't think they make those anymore.

I agree with storing berries don't last long when we get them.

To keep organized and make it easier to find what I'm looking for, I have these risers in my kitchen cabinets....

....and a couple of Lazy Susan's.

I have those lazy susan's too. Also, In my cupboards under my stove I have those pull out wire baskets for my pots and pans.
Instead of me having to get on my hands and knees and reach for a particular frying pan or pot, all I have to do is pull out the basket. It's so much easier.

Oh, I need that! Something I can pull out. It's getting so frustrating trying to bend and hunt for a pan in a dark cabinet.

I had pullout put in my kitchen cabinets when we remodeled. I wasn't going to, but my husband talked me into it & I'm glad he did. I've been thinking about checking at the stores to see if I can get come after market ones that would fit under my kitchen sink.th-1840052744.jpg
