Christmas Hampers do you buy them ?

My Wife and her three grown kids belong to a thing called The Christmas Hamper. The group buys clothing and other needed items for a single mother with kids. Each person puts in $50 towards the total. Some of the gifts are food, but most are clothing or things like blankets or kitchen pots and pans. The recipients are recent arrivals in Canada, who are here as war refugees. This is a good idea in my opinion, as the gifts are selected specifically for the ages and likes of the kids, and the needs of the Mother. The gifts are delivered in the week before December 25th. JimB.
 

I will sometimes make up a gift basket for a baby shower, open house etc or in some cases as a thank you for a dinner invitation. Sometimes it includes wine or spritzers. I enjoy picking items that reflect the giftee’s tastes or needs, so I don’t think I’d ever buy a premade one no matter the price.

no we call what we walk on the pavement... the carrriageway is a road which is a fast moving road ( 'B' road).. which usually connect towns but with a limited speed of 60mph.... a Motorway is the same as your Freeway... the speed limit is 70mph... we also have Dual carriageways *A* roads where the speed limit is also 70mph, and they carry twice the amount of traffic as the *B* road carriageway..
 
I never heard these called "Christmas Hampers". We're more used to the term "basket" and one can buy many types at many different prices. People like to make their own, as posted here. I used to like to make Easter baskets.
 
We call them gift baskets, but hampers and baskets are the same thing. We used to have a "picnic hamper". I like receiving them but would not purchase them as gifts. Most of them here are ridiculously priced. $60 To have six pears delivered is ridiculous in my opinion.

Here in the south most of time a footpath is in the woods or walking trail, we walk on sidewalks or pavement located adjacent to a road. We call a road that connect towns or cities a highway and the speed limit is over 70 MPH, in much larger states like California they are called freeways to my knowledge which I never knew why that is.

yep and autobahns in Germany.. our speed limit is 70 in the UK but the average speed on the motorway is 80mph...
