Another Booster for Vulnerable People in the UK

A new variant of Covid causing concern in the UK, so much so,
that they are bringing forward the proposed Autumn booster,
from mid-October to the 11th September, it was announced on
the News a few days ago.

Mike.
will you get one Mike ?... ..I won't... the only reason I ended up having 3.. was because they said we wouldn't be allowed to travel ....but I really don't want any more ..and it pees me off now, that people who never had any vaccinations.. have no restrictions on travel today... so why should I put more potential poison in my body to tick boxes for people like Steve Barclay et al...

Good luck hollydolly, I never had any trouble
with the vaccines, only an ache where they
put the needle in, I heard that some people
had bad reactions, which is sad.

Mike.

I'll get it because I think it's the responsible thing to do, both for myself and others - let alone the health system. I've had three shots so far, and never had any issues after getting them. This is a case of the NHS trying to protect us before the event, something they don't do enough of!

Lucky me. I found out early this morning that I have COVID for the 3rd time. I had the first 2 vaccines and 1 booster. I also had COVID twice, so I should have plenty of immunities, but it doesn’t seem to be working.

No more for me. I’m thinking of spending the winter in Greenland.

From what I've been told by those who saved my life back in 2020 when there were none, the vaccines don't stop you getting Covid. They help stop you dying from it.

Speedy recovery!

Thanks for the well wishes, but I know 2 men that were vaccinated and died from COVID. The one man that died had serious issues with prostate cancer, stage 4. The other man was in my Platoon when I retired and I was informed of his death through my former secretary. I don’t know if he had other issues or not. He probably would have been about 50 years old. I know he was seriously wounded in Afghanistan and was then retired, so that may have had something to do with his death. He was shot in the abdomen and had to be operated on a few times, including adding a wire basket inside his stomach, or that’s what I was told.

I will be in the line for the new booster and the flu shot. It maybe that I don't go out often, that I had vaccines, that I still follow CDC guidelines, still wearing a mask.

I have not been sick with any respiratory illness for years. I also quit smoking and feel a lot better during Covid. I was in a hospital setting for a hip replacement during Covid. That made me nervous. I got thru the whole thing without contracting any illness.

I know that I am lucky I have not been sick. It is more worrisome for those of us that live alone. I just feel if there is something I can do to avoid getting sick, I best do it.

Since there's a new variant, I'm wondering if we'll be back to covering up and such as back to 2020?

Hoping it won't bring closures as back then, as that puts damper on current situation. Bummer!

We were supposed to go for our booster jabs tomorrow, but since we've both got bad colds, we rescheduled. I then discovered that the centre that we were booked to use, is having a break from this weekend until December. There is another one the same distance away, but not as convenient, that is administering jabs in late October, so we've booked there. I assume that the same staff move around the different centres.
We're just having Covid jabs and passing on Flu.

I got it yesterday, the booster, that is, I was also offered the
Flu jab at the same time, but I declined because I have heard
from many people that they felt really ill, when they had both
together, I already have an appointment for the flu jab at my
Doctors Surgery, in a couple of weeks time, so the vaccine will
be well dissipated by then.

Capt Lightning, you at least have some lovely places to go around
where you live, make a day of it Lunch out etc., before the white
stuff arrives, there must be many "Walk In", centres where you are.

Feel better Capt. I've had a cold too. Hugs.

Mike, Dalrymple hall, which now houses the vaccination centre, is where the (Silver)Beatles played in 1960.

I'm a bit worried about the size of that needle!

Last Saturday as I was preparing to go out with my lady friend, my phone rang and I got a real shock when I answered it. The woman on the other end started asking me questions because she wanted to find out if she had the right person. She told me she had been tracking me down for almost 2 weeks.

I remembered her from high school. She married my best friend while in high school and she asked me if I remembered the time I told her that if anything ever happened to Zack (her husband) I wanted her to let me know. I did vaguely remember saying that. She told me that he has taken on what’s referred to as “the cruelest disease,” or Frontotemporal Dementia” (FTD).

They now live in the western part of West Virginia, so yesterday I drove here and met with them this morning. He did remember me and in fact, he remembered some of the antics we pulled and those we got away with. I am going back to see him again later and have dinner with them. Kiddingly, I asked his wife if she was serving groundhog tonight. She said, no, tonight is muskrat night.

She also told me that Bruce Willis has this same disease. He’s getting by with it, but his family is very protective of him. There are times I have trouble understanding him speak, but it goes with the illness, Other than that, he’s doing very well. I need to read about this illness. I have a lot of questions.

We had a good evening tonight. His mind is sharp when we speak about past times. He likes to talk about football and some of the girls that we dated. We were a small school, so word got around pretty quick as to who was dating who.

I think this disease is slow to progress on him. He takes a lot of medicine but has someone there to remember when he needs to take which one and when. He also has a great family that looks after him very well.
