How is the migrant crisis where you live?

It's been the same broken system for 40+ years and congress has proved itself incapable to even attempt a fix since Regan gave 3 million amnesty. In fact late last year a $3B request to congress for border funding was denied by those that claim they want the borders controlled yet won't spend the money to do so.

I buy fuel at our truck stop a lot and see the buses loaded with illegals come through often especially just after dark time The buses heading north or west they look packed full. It is a very real issue here in Texas. I would vote to give the military control of our borders with orders to just stop the illegals by what ever means it takes. The open borders are a losing issue, nobody wants them here. (the illegals)

The problem is, the more they bring in, the more it voids your vote. That is the intent.
The administration is losing their voter base so they are propping it up with illegals, willing to trade a vote for a taxpayer funded check every month.

Legal and illegal immigrants can't vote in federal elections and there's been scant evidence that they are attempting to do so.

What money are you suggesting illegals receive as taxpayer funded checks each month? Credible source, please, bearing the below in mind.

I am not taken in by an “idea”, but rather by the truth. The most intelligent among us are Ashkenazi Jews, and next, East Asians. It is no coincidence that so many Nobel prizes have been awarded to Ashkenazi Jews. It is also not some trick of nature that those same Jews are often plagued with Gaucher Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, and Tay Sachs. The reason, shared genetics. Where are the finest computer chips produced — Taiwan. Why is our Silicon Valley inundated with East Asian immigrants? Those East Asians are intellectually equipped for success in the High Tech jobs of the Valley.

Disagree? Your privilege, but I suggest you consult the many apolitical sources of national intelligence on the Internet.
I have no stake in this topic, so my mind is open. If you would care to read an apolitical article on IQ, here is one: wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_intelligence

These aren't the poor, weak, immigrants that came through Ellis Island, wanting to actually build a successful life for their families through hard work, pay taxes, and be respectful of the country that gave them the opportunity to help build America. No, most are looking for handouts on the back of the American taxpayers.
What are you basing your thinking on? Immigrants today have significantly higher employment rates than 'born' citizens. So the immigrants are creating wealth for all of us. I'm always surprised by the view some people express that more people mean less for all. Omaha was once a tiny place of 400 people and immigrants came and it grew to a million people, but do you think that a million people are living on the handouts of the original 400? People create wealth, more people can be more wealth.

Social Security is in trouble because we didn't have as many children as its formulas expected, so these immigrants can be like the kids we should have had (tho we shouldn't have had if we don't want to overpopulate the planet).

The only illegal I've personally known was here on a tourist visa but secretly working to make money to send home. He was very discouraged by how expensive it is to live here which caused him to not have any extra to send back to his wife and kids. He gave up and went home after a few months.

Interesting, but apolitical? In any event believe what you wish, and I will do the same. Sign me out of this one.
Yes, Wikipedia is as apolitical as it gets. Believe as you wish, perhaps someday when the subject comes up again you might indulge the curious with an apolitical link to support your IQ assertions.

Well, I'm basing it on by draining public funds, creating unfair competition for jobs with America’s least prepared workers and thereby lowering wages and working conditions, and by imposing unwanted strains on services designed to provide assistance to Americans, illegal immigration causes harm to Americans and legal residents.

There is a list of several million eligible people waiting to be legally admitted as immigrants to our country; some of them have been on that list for many years waiting for one of the numerically limited visas to become available. Illegal immigration makes a mockery of those people’s adherence to the rules and of our country’s sovereignty.

The costs of illegal immigration to the taxpayer are numerous, but the largest costs are the education of their children, emergency medical care and incarceration for those arrested for crimes. Despite being ineligible, some illegal aliens also get welfare the same way they get jobs: with identity documents falsely identifying them as U.S. citizens. In addition, if they have U.S.-born children, they may collect welfare assistance in the name of those children. The annual net cost of illegal immigrants (after subtracting their tax payments) to the American taxpayer is likely to be more than $45 billion.

You are not separating illegal from legal immigration.
Illegal immigration, well, is illegal....plain and simple. These are people that ignore and disregard the rule of law in the US. Before they even step foot on American soil, they are criminals.
They bring an enormous amount of drugs into this country. They are not here to better themselves like legal immigrants do, they are just the opposite.
They are criminals first and foremost. Then they ruin cities, commit crimes of murder, rape, and rapid violence across the country. These are MS13 gang members, south American countries empty their prisons and send them to the border.
They leech off the taxpayers for housing, food, cell phone, medical services, etc.
They are not the same as legal immigrants, not even close.
They are here for one purpose and that is to take more than they contribute and be the next voting block that is willing to trade votes for cash.
Do not clump in these criminals with legal immigrants. That is a 'slap in the face' to legal immigrants.

“During the last 30 years there has been controversy concerning whether the intelligence of East Asians (Chinese, Japanese, Koreans) is higher than that of Europeans. Despite counter-arguments, studies of indigenous East Asians in China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore have shown that the average IQ of these peoples is 105, compared with 100 of Europeans. In North America, early studies showed that East Asians had about the same IQ as Europeans, but 5 post-1990 studies have found that their average IQ is 105, the same as that of their indigenous cousins.”

“It is a general principle of evolutionary biology that when populations of a species become isolated from each other, they evolve into two or more subspecies. They are called varieties, strains or races. In the case of humans, these different varieties are called races. These different varieties evolve under the effect of four processes (1) founder effects (2) genetic drift (3) mutation and (4) adaptation”

tons of money is sent to countries that many of these folks are from.... The idea is support their economies and the people will stay there ... except in reality these countries send more KNOWING the checks will get bigger what was trying to help in now IMO extortion.

Do you see violence in the streets now? Is council housing overwhelmed or are the migrants being sent to hotels at your, the taxpayer's, expense? I wasn't sure how bad this all was until it got here. This could be another life changer for me if it gets any worse. :(

I've not read the whole thread to get a feeling for the replies of others, and might upset some people, might not.

Council Housing. There is none. But it's got nothing to do with migrants, it's down to the Right to Buy, and an almost total lack of building new properties to replace them over a 40 year period. The entire country is predicated on house prices increasing, so there has been a resistance to build new properties that would hurt the market. Instead, people were encouraged to get themselves into debt to "own" their property. Banks kept happy by making ever more sinister mortgage agreements: 5 year mortgage, 10 year mortgage, buy 50%, and now they're thinking of buy 10%.

I have lived and worked abroad for a good amount of my life, and therefore know what it's like to be an immigrant. I spent time in Germany, and when I went I didn't speak a word of the language. So, although I was very privileged (I had a job, and therefore the money to solve all problems) I think I have a general idea of what being an immigrant is like. Let me tell you, it's not all fun and games. It can be hard. Very hard.

The idea that someone would walk hundreds of miles, not knowing where the next meal is coming from, sometimes with kids, older relatives, and would then step into a boat to sale across a cold sea channel just so they can get benefit money is something I can't comprehend. I'm sure there are some horrible people in the mix, there always is, but on the whole, I'd like to see more sympathy and empathy.

Truth is, some of these people are running away from wars and/or governments that have been bombed into existence by my government, or been held up through aid and/or military support hangs heavy on me. In the UK we have a lot of immigrants from India, Pakistan, and throughout what was the Commonwealth. Ultimately, we went there and took advantage, and they're now coming here (well, they're been coming here for decades, but the point remains).

Let me give a theoretical argument. The US are spending billions in a war in Ukraine right now. Now, if the war goes the wrong way, should the US be willing to take in the people who have to leave (or who manage to leave)? Or does the entire thing sit squarely with enabling a war, and if they lose they simply lose? (By the way, I choose this example only because it's contemporary, not for any other reason).

If you do a quick search, the stats say there are over a million EMPTY homes in the UK. That's right now, today. They're empty for lots of reasons, but still. Building more housing creates jobs, too. There are 270,000 homeless people in the UK. These are people for whom home ownership is very unlikely to happen. They need an alternative. So we have private rentals, and I don't have much good to say about that.

Do I worry about migration? Yes, of course. I just think the rhetoric around it has gotten stale and nasty. Kind of like Brexit, okay so we left the EU, are we better off now? No, of course not. Because Brexit was a solution looking for a problem.

I feel fortunate in life overall. But I know I mustn't get complacent in that.
