@-Oy- ...wow you had immediate effects from the Covid jab.. hope you feel up to your old self soon...

Today here it's really ''dreich'' as they say in Scotland which perfectly sums up a grey dismal day.. with no breeze.. it would be better off raining, to clear the air..

Had a terrible sleep last night, woke up after an hour , struggled to sleep after that and when I did drop off it was nightmare filled, so I feel really tired today.. no plans so that's ok..I'll probably sleep later this afternoon

Hi, kids. Gramma's home 🏠. I had my usual cup of coffee on the patio and watered the flowers.

It's been so dry here that every three or four days the flowers actually have to be watered. There's still no rain in sight. While watering is a PITA, at least the weather has been cool. Our definition of cool is anything 80-ish and below. This summer the temps were 90+ with no rain in sight, and watering had to be done daily. With the cooler temps, the ground stays wetter longer. Yay!

TL brought her kids to work today. They're well-behaved and spent the morning in our break room playing on their tablets so they weren't underfoot.

Tomorrow is inventory day...not fun at all. Sir takes inventory, has to start at midnight and usually isn't gone until around 9 or 10 in the morning. It only affects me because he's often in a spot where I need to be.

Excuse me, please, while I take short snooze🛏️. BBL

Expected an invitation to a birthday dinner party. Didn't get it, bummer! We gave our gifts and cards yesterday, today we send video of bagpiper playing "Happy Birthday"...

So, we cooked (from frozen) lovely rack of BBQ ribs and microwaved two pouches of long grain rice. Had chocolate pieces and peanut butter for dessert. Having cup of tea in a wee bit (decaf) then, we're moving into bedrooms, watching Sirens TV series. Well, that's the plans. 😄

My adblocker isn't working on YouTube anymore, so I've been struggling to adjust to a less-YouTube-y life.

I've started listening to a lecture series about race discussions on Wondrium, which had an interesting interview with an Asian student who said they hadn't experienced the topic of needing aptitude for subjects until they came to the US, in their culture the view is that abilities are acquired from how much effort you put into learning/practicing, not from having aptitude for it.

So, since I've anxiously procrastinated on trying to decorate my t-shirts with the fabric paint I bought a few months ago, using the excuse that I have no artistic aptitude and will just embarrass myself (and ruin the t-shirts) trying, listening to that interview was motivating, and I've started trying to acquire some art ability through learning/practicing.

I'm only a couple lectures into the How to Draw course and am feeling a confusing mixture of overwhelmed/hopeless/encouraged. One lecture was about how art is composed of straight and curvy lines and I was following along as the instructor said to make some horizontal lines, vertical lines, diagonal, etc, but then by the end he had made a picture of a naked woman in a room, whereas I had a page of random lines and curves! ha! But then I convinced myself to try putting more effort into learning and I replayed the lecture and this time made my lines in the same places he was. I wound up with a gosh awful looking naked guy in a room. In particular the hands and feet were blobs.

So I found a few short tik-tok-y youtubes (seems they don't put ads in those) about how to draw a hand and a foot.
My results aren't great but maybe the idea of making more effort is useful.

I used to do all the garden work by myself, but as a senior the time has come to outsource work. So, today I hired someone with a commercial shredder who did in 2 hours what would have taken me 2 days with my little shredder. Palm fronds are difficult to shred and are better be trucked to the public dump.

it's satisfying now to see big jobs get done much faster than we now take to do it due to bigger and better technology. Another weight off your shoulders.. (y)...was it very expensive ?

I forgot to mention a teeny tiny little boo-boo I made at work this morning. I set the oven timer. So far so good. Unfortunately, once it's set, it also has to be turned on. I forgot the "turned on" part. And burned two entire racks of croissants. Oops. Two! Sir thought it was funny that I had to start all over again and make two more batches. We're talking about 300+ croissants.

At least I caught them before they made the whole store smell like burned croissants.

do that again and they'll have you labelled as senile...ya gotta be careful when you're 38...

Went to the store early to avoid crowds. The parking lot had a pattern. Everyone pulled through so they didn’t have to back out and people were in every other space. It’s a big parking lot and I was surprised how busy it was at 8am. There were lots of sale items, but many things were out of stock or replenished.

Had to crawl around to get the cords in the right places for this new blanket. Did an intensive dusting while down there, prior to vacuuming. Also, have the laundry going. I need to go to another store to get the fall vegetables that were available this morning.

@bobcat
You've seen "Mary Poppins" and Dick Van Dyke, dance in the rain and with umbrellas, right? 🤩 😁 :giggle:

I'm sure that you can!😄🤣🤩
Ha ha. I doubt I could pull that off like they did.
It turned out that it didn't start raining till the very last song, so timing was perfect, and got to dance for two hours almost non-stop, except for their break, and it was pretty cool dancing in the rain on the last song, as everyone needed to cool down anyway. There was a big crowd, and it added to the fun. The band was rockin' and so was the everyone else. It was a blast.

As an 87 year old senior, I am over the hill but not yet out.

I started outsourceing some work. But when a professional wanted $100 for cutting a dead tree branch, then I decided to do it myself in ten minutes.

We planted this tree one foot tall; and like any other tree in our garden, it is a living memory for me. It has still many green branches but is leaning badly. After God has called me, my kids may take it down.

You might have the knack for caricatures instead of portraits. No worries, funny characters in our drawing abilities prove that we're in touch with our inner child.

Even though I never explored my funny drawings further, years later it was my daughter who went into animated 3D characters in college. As her special project for her finals, she animated a series of shorts based in a story I'd read to her when she was a wee girl.

The stories of two wee bunnies in the forest... It gave her a degree. She was top of her class. I'm glad I was able to pass these skills along to her.

So, take it to heart that you've a talent for the funny side of drawing life. 👍👍👍
