What are you doing today 2023

I have the kitchen blocked off and the bedroom doors closed. I've been camping out in LR on couch. This am they ventured from LR to foyer. Next they have a long hallway to explore before I open the bedrooms up to them & kitchen. In kitchen, barricaded behind stove and under sink, so they will be safe when they venture in.

So, my days are filled with kittens. I must leave them today, twice! Once for doctor's appointment with gastro guy, then 3pm Library Book Club. It's hard enough for me to do more than One Thing A Day so I'm curious if I can fulfill my obligations, given I've been up since 3:15 am and had poor sleep. My CPAP machine broke, so now I have that to deal with...........hard to breathe & sleep at same time. Don't use mask, use nose 'pillows.' Very uncomfortable sleep despite my couch being extremely comfortable.

First thing this morning, I am making a pot of hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot. Then a trip to the dumpster. I skipped the dumpster yesterday and have a FULL bag now. My plan is to do a thorough vacuuming of the whole apartment including furniture. Tomorrow is errand day so need to do everything I can today. Also working on paying bills right now.

Cleaning up apples.

I have one apple tree. The "crop" varies year by year, this year maybe a medium crop. These apples are a nice tart/sweet variety I've never identified but it doesn't matter since I don't spray and it is rare for me to find edible specimens. Too many orchards around here, so parasites are pretty unavoidable.

The tree is near the sidewalk, so one reason to clean them up is to avoid people stumbling or slipping on whole or mushed spoiled apples. Another is that they attract some sort of wasp, and I don't want people getting stung. They also make mowing the grass here difficult, and soon raking leaves nearly as hard. If they sit and spoil when we get warm days there is a pronounced cider smell too.

So most years around this time I need to get out in the morning while it is too cool for wasps and clean them up. It's a clunky process, and I normally use a rake and a large plastic "scoop shovel" to get them into a yard waste bin.

That's a great shovel. I've used it for tons of things, even shoveling wet snow in winter. When it had seen batter days it lived in the trunk of my car for snow emergencies. Big heavy polyethylene scoop, matching "D" handle, and a durable wooden shaft joining the two. It looks a lot like an old-time coal shovel. I sure wish I could find another one to buy. Nobody seems to carry them any more.

Another overcast day.. 80 % humidity .. we had 15 minutes of torrential rain which hadn't been forecast.. so a mad dash to close all the windows when it started , and then it was over in a few minutes... but now we have VERY loud thunder... and lightening..⛈️⛈️⛈️

Vacc'd throughout the house today..I only do that once a in a while..with the Miele because it's heavy to haul up and downstairs .. so in between a major Vacuuming, I use the cordless hand held on a daily basis...

Just chilling today... gonna continue sorting through and editing my huge catalogue of photos... it's very labour intensive, I've been doing it now for a couple of months

Dinner tonight will be smoked haddock chowder.. ( beggar the diet)

Uh Oh... the ambulance and paramedics are attending at my 86 year old neighbours' home... just saw them out out of the window... oh dear ... I hope she's not seriously ill.. wonder if she's had a fall. I always worry for her because the stairs are so steep inside our houses.. she's not mentally frail.. not in the least.. but she's had a lot of surgeries in recent years and struggles to walk with the aid of a cane.. but she's way too independent to use a mobility scooter

I'm watching to see if they take her to hospital ..I can see her s-i-l is there...

Just lost every bit of power in my house for the last 10 minutes...seems we're in the eye of the storm. This is the first time during a storm I've lost complete power to the house in many years. The rain is torrential.. this was NOT forecast at all.. how ridiculous!

if the power goes out again like that I fear for the health of my MAC... and I have surge protect plugs and adaptors everywhere in the house..

Yesterday morning, while it was still cooler out, we went out and took down all of the fence insulators (they hold the electric wires). Doi used trees to hold the insulators whenever he could, and fence poles when there wasn't a tree where needed. The insulators on the poles just clip in place. The ones on the trees were held with screws. So we went around, he used a drill and took off all of the insulators that were on trees, while I uncliped the ones on the poles. It was easy working, and I enjoyed being outside.

In the evening, Dio took out the tractor and we got busy pulling out the fence poles. We got all of them done!! It was very hard work...I slept well last night!!!

It seems so strange: there are NO fences to check!!!!!!.

Well it's been a whole hour since the pandemics have been in my elderly neighbours' home. and they've just brought her out. As independent as ever she's walked out using her cane and the arm of a paramedic.. followed by her daughter and s-i-l who must have dashed to her aid... her head is completely wrapped in bandages so I suspect she's fallen probably down the stairs.. or maybe out of the bath

Anyone else wouldn't be allowed to walk but I'm sure, knowing how feisty she is she would have insisted on it.. Poor B... hope she's gonna be ok...

Sunshine and warmish today. Took doggie for an extended walk in the woods. Wearing jeans and a long sleeve shirt, I didn't thing I'd need bug spray.... Wrong! They bit up my hands and a small area where my sleeve was pushed up a bit. Maddening.

Friday I was stung on my ring finger by a wasp in the kitchen sink. No doubt it came in when the window was open. Ouch. Now it too, itches. I'm a pin cushion!

My sheet rock guy is coming finally, tomorrow to close off the holes the plumber needed to cut.

Thinking about pizza.

@Trila, why don’t you need your electric fence anymore?
Oh, @Jules ......this is a very long answer!!!! Someone on my other forum asked the same question, and I felt like I was typing forever!!! LOL

If you don't mind, I will just do a "copy and past", hopefully this will explain it. If not, just ask....I'll do my best to answer!

This is what I wrote:

Many years ago, when our house had open cow pasture on 3 sides, Dio planted trees so that we would have woods around the house. He planted a lot of trees....close to 3 thousand (yes, thousand!) trees over the course of several years. The trees were 3-4 feet tall, and he planted them by hand!

We never expected what happened next...deer! Herds of deer! When the trees were still small, they would kill the trees by eating them down to the ground. Those that did survive, and grew for a few years, were killed when the bucks scraped their antlers on the trunks.

Every year that went by, more and more trees were being killed. So about 5 years ago we put up 2 electric fences, to keep the deer OUT, and let the trees have a chance.

So the deer have no longer been a problem for the trees, but they would on occasion break a wire. Sometimes a branch would fall and break a wire. So, every day I would check the fences for anything that needed to be repaired.

The fences did help the trees to grow, and we are surrounded by woods, now. However, since the fences went up, we have had 2 ice storms that have killed quite a few trees. Not to mention all of the work that was added to maintain the fences in these conditions.

The original plan was that the fences would be up for 2-3 years, then their job would be done. Well, it's been 5 years....it's time to let Ma Nature have her way!

Today I've listened to unnecessarily excessive jarring noises, for 4 hours, made by a group of guys emptying the apartment right on the other side of the wall. (tossing furniture, yelling, smashing stuff, trucks at our windows, etc:eek:)

It's been a stressful week, with our closest next-door neighbor having died in his apartment  and 2 stressful medical appointments for DH. :(

On the plus side, we are both still here, he and I.
And out the window, I see the trees are going into the beautiful autumn colors. Not as vivid or early as past years, but enjoyable, and a welcome sight, nonetheless.

That is the problems of living in an apartment building. I don't know if your building is a senior living one like mine but I have a horrible problem of getting attached to people and then they die. I still miss my neighbor across the hall but I have become fond of the guy who moved into that apartment. I figure they all add something to my life and I am thankful to have known them.

People moving in and moving out is so bad that I turn my music up loud. I think it is because the people doing the moving work are not the ones who lived there or who are moving in. So they are quite careless and noisy.

I took a long walk this morning in the parks. Sat in one for a bit to just enjoy being outside. Came back and did my vacuuming! Yah me! I always put it off and now I know why........it knocks me out! I have to keep taking short sit down breaks. Once I get it done though, I love it and think I should make sure to do it on schedule next time. I figure every 7 days at least, especially with a bunny as a roommate. Hay and bunny fur is usually what I clean out of the cleaner.

Now I am going to have root beer float keto replacement shake ice cream. It is my reward and will cool me off.

My furnace/air conditioner fan stopped working this morning. The repair person was out within an hour, and he says he'll get me a replacement either today or at the latest by 2 pm tomorrow. No charge (included in HOA fees). I'm sure glad the fan waited until after the weekend to break down (I think it has been slowly failing for a few months, probably that is why the unit froze up with ice a couple months ago).

Luckily not too hot today (though I might change my opinion about that as the hours without air conditioning continue, maybe I'll go hang out at one of the clubhouses).
