Beware the new jugging robberies...

You're just going to see more and more of this.

Corporations and Grocery Stores have used Covid as an excuse to jack everybody. People are desperate and can't make ends meet or feed their families properly.

Never heard the term "jugging" before, so thanks for defining it.

Had a case of that here just yesterday. A lady had inherited £3000, and she went to her Building Society to withdraw £2800 for unspecified reasons. She was followed from the Society to her car and was mugged.

These are the times we're living in, I'm afraid. When withdrawing money you should look behind you, and around you, and be vigilant. If you're getting a large amount of money ask to speak to someone in a secure room and do the transaction there, out of eyesight of others.
wrll yes this is a terrible thing which has been happening for years.People are warned to be very careful who is behind you or watching you at AT's.. for that reason I always use the inside of a bank... but this Jugging is different in that the robbers are following people home before attacking ad robbing...

It's a good thing to be aware that that this is happening.
Situational awareness is becoming absolutely necessary these days.

Ah yes...that old..let's blame the victim excuse...

Well if we all start paying for a hot dog using a Card we'll very quickly become a cashless society, when that happens you give control of your money to the government.. when you have no control over your money you have none over your life....
There’s more truth to this then maybe most people know. This is what lies ahead. Getting control of your money is the next step. Once they (those in power) get control of your money, it’s game over. Take away our guns and money and what’s left?

Anyone that runs at me with a gun better have their living wills in order. They are about to have their day ruined.

I don't think I'd be allowed to reply to this post as I'd want to, so I won't do my usual verbose diatribe. I refute the idea that anyone wants to control my money, take away guns, and have some secret masterplan for us all. What we have are the usual things going on, driven by the system we've built. The rich have more influence and power than the poor. Guns, especially, are never going away, and no-one in US politics is trying to achieve it. It's all NRA propaganda because fear makes people comply.

I think we'd all defend ourselves as best we could.

One of the first things I do after I get money from an atm is split if up just leave a small portian easy access/in a pocket or place one usually keeps money. If I get robbed that's all they'll get besides cards/ID etc if that's what they want. Also I try to go at times the area is still busy enough a robber might not like all the surrounding activity. If I have to wait to use it so be it.

But as noted always be aware of surroundings when you arrive and leave.

it works because people are now even more scared as these thieves KNOW where you live.... it is a no-win situation i bet the guy in video lives in fear that will be at his house.
It is not new as many criminals have profiled people and follow home to see where they live to rob them.
In the case on video...... since that was very clear to id car and people it would have been easier to not get caught if they had just mugged him at ATM. those cameras seem pretty fuzzy except the person using machine.

It's annoying to think one has to lay back and work up a full situation report before deciding to use an ATM.

Using the ones inside a store might be better, or ones you drive up to where you can wiggle in close so nobody can get at you might be best. Sadly the drive-throughs here have been raised to monster truck height so that doesn't work well if you drive a normal car.

The latter is so bad that I dread going to the doctor. To get out of the parking structure you have to be a gymnast to reach up high and slip the ticket in, or worse yet pay if you took too long. You can't even drive up, get out, insert the ticket, then get back in to drive thru the raised pike. By that time it would've gone down again to block you in, and now "no tickee" so you're stuck.

Why "Jugging"? Doesn't seem to fit the crime.
I have no idea.. tried to work that out myself...

ETA...just found this...

A “jugging” case is a form of theft that includes robbery. It occurs when a suspect follows a victim from a bank to their next location. These incidents include but are not limited to large banks, check cashing stores, drive- through bank services, ATMs, and smaller banking branches.

How many loaves of bread have the those criminals bought with their loot.

The criminals are very aggressive and mobile even if they are amateur copy cats in many cases. There's not such thing as crime being confined to a bad area or neighborhood.

Food prices have always been an issue especially to those that always look at a price tag because of budget.

I agree.. and if it were just for food ..they'd risk a whole lot less jail time just by shoplifting from a supermarket

Well, I got that from what is happening to the victims but it still doesn't explain how that term was chosen. I'm on my computer now so I can give a more "complete" response. I'm glad the victim in the video was able to get away and I hope they do not return to his home as revenge. It's too bad he didn't have time to get their license plate number. I wonder if anyone had a surveillance camera that did.

It mentions that this has really picked up in Texas. I'm going to share this with my my cousin (on FB) who lives there. In fact, I should share the story in some of my groups as well. I have had debit cards since day one (for decades) but I can count how many times I've used them on one hand. Whether using an ATM or teller, I'm sure nobody expects to be targeted after they've driven home. This is terrible!

“Jugging“ is a fishing method for catfish. The fish takes the bait that is attached to a floating jug (plastic bottle). The baits are left overnight. Then come morning they chase the jugs around to retrieve the fish.
