Bank statement getting later and later

I used to receive a statement from my bank through snail mail that, a year ago, would arrive on the business day closest to or on the fifth of the month. Now I'm getting them no earlier than the 9th. I called the bank a few months ago and asked about it. It's always some mumbo jumbo about weekends and holidays which sounds like a cover-up story. Ya think that's the REAL reason?

Is the bank sending them on/about the same day of the month or is the "mumbo jumbo" about who prints and mails their statements? Does your bank want you to switch to online statements?

If the statements are being printed about the same date as before it can be a few different things. Companies that do bulk mailings can hold mail until it reaches a certain volume threshold for the post office to pick up. The mail can easily sit in a post office unprocessed from a Fri to Sun evening. It also can be sent to it's next location and sit there because it arrives after a cut off time. Essentially the post office doesn't work the mail over weekends anymore.

On the bank's end it easily could be to force you into going to online statements. My bank was taken over by some other bank and to get printed statements was $8, but no charge (yet) for online statements. With online statements the bank saves on the costs involved in producing and mailing statements. If you need a record of something printed by my bank, the charges are significant.

The US Postal Service has repeatedly warned that it is slowing down mail - on purpose it seems. It is likely not the bank's fault but you might ask them if they have changed their mailing date. To be honest, I haven't ever kept track of when I get my statements but my DH and I both have separate Credit Union accounts and the statements will often come on different days - not sure why. I do know that I did not receive my life insurance premium bill last quarter and had to call to make sure I could get a payment in on time. I blame the USPS.

I got out the last two statements and they were both issued on the last day of the month (July 31 and Aug 31). There's no postmarks on the envelopes, so I can't actually say when they were posted.

I have received no communications about going paperless, although my electricity supplier adds almost a dollar to my bill for preparing a paper bill be mailed to me. There's just something about having a statement on paper. What if my Internet service went down or my computer broke?

Your bank likely has a web site where you can register and view your statement/balance as often as you wish.

I can see you complaining if you DID NOT get a monthly statement at all. But complaining about 2 or 3 days is silly. JimB.

I am in my 80's but embrace the 21st century. I have gone totally paperless, except for year end statements when doing my taxes. I use a credit card almost exclusively, and also use autopay.
The concept of being so paranoid about a bill that I have to rush to the post office to pay it is totally foreign to me.

Deb, can you go in and pick up the statement at the bank?

Don’t you worry about theft from your mailbox. That’s a pretty valuable piece of info if they got your bank statement.

Our central locked mailbox was broken into twice. The first time I really worried what might have been in the mail. There’re a couple of financial pieces that have to come by mail once per year and this was that time of year.

I usually hear the mail truck coming - it has a certain stop and go rumble. Then I watch to see if it stops at my place and I go out and get the mail. The only day he usually comes when I'm not there is the day I deliver meals, but most days I don't get any mail, anyway.

If you follow her posts on SF you will notice a recurring theme. JImB.

When my daughter would buy something with her cc, she would go home and immediately send payment online!!! I think after a couple years she relaxed, but better to start out paying asap and not getting into debt or overspending.

I let Dave Ramsey indoctrinate her as a young child and her very thrifty mother set a perfect example.

I think I haven't received a bank statement in about 20 years. I used to get them monthly. But in 2002, I finally got a computer. Now I go online 2, 3, 4 times a week, and balance my bank book online. Somewhere along the line, I must have told them not to send one anymore.

Same here. But I never balance my bank book online because most of my bills are paid with my Chase Freedom card so I'm either getting a discount or cash back. Why pay out of your checking account where you receive nothing in return?

The only transactions through my bank are my Social Security deposits, any cash that I transfer from equities, my gym membership (because they don't debit credit cards) and the funds that I use to pay off my credit card bill each month.

It is so much easier. I just go through my online Chase statement each month and if I recognize the charges I'm good to go.

Deb, while you're waiting for your mailed bank statement(s) to arrive, you could always log into your account online and print your account(s) pages. It's really simple.

I barely have a computer. I actually have 3 printers, one is a laser, but it's so old I can't find toner cartridges for it and the other 2 won't run with Windows 7.
I hope they 3 printers that don't work aren't to heavy to be carrying back & forth to your yard sales. Maybe this how to download win 10 will help you upgrade to a way to use two of the printers you have.

maybe going all out this would work better for you.
